Theres blood in the water in VA. Webb closes the gap to 3%
Edited on Mon Aug-21-06 05:50 PM by nickshepDEM
VA SENATE
George Allen (R) 48%
James Webb (D) 45%
Gail Parker (G) 2%

http://wusa9.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=51530

Two things to say regarding this poll.

1. In 2005 Survey USA NAILED the Kaine vs Kilgore race. The night before the election they published a poll that showed Kaine +5. Everyone said throw it out, it's an outlier. Next Day ~ Kaine +6

2. Webb is down bigtime in cash-on-hand. If you have any extra change, throw it Webb's way.

13. It is the only function of the Greens.
The few I know personally either changed their story about voting for Ralph or do not come out in daylight.

I hope the DSCC gives this race more attention, and it would really be nice if Mark Warner started working the rolodexes too.

7. I certainly hope Webb can pull this off....
I would like to keep the Senate Klan-free (or relatively, Trent Lott's still in there)....Sadly, Allen probably enhanced his standing among some voters.

14. Webb needs to go positive immediately
To ensure this is not a short term bump.

The new negativity toward Allen is already built into this poll number. Now Webb needs to stamp himself as a positive alternative.

I hope that is understood by his handlers, and they don't either hammer with negativity or let this opportunity pass.

It's all about correct handicapping which is never our strength as a party. Allen now has more doubters and some who have turned against him, but that is flimsy and subject to switch back unless Webb seizes them right now, as in "yes, that's the guy who I want to vote FOR." If Webb offers a negative response, it will crumble as standard and predictable piling on.

15. Excellent. Green party, although I love ya, this is NOT the time.
Like Arianna Huffington said, when the house is on fire, it's no time to redecorate. I voted for Nader in 2000 when VA was deep red and Gore had no chance. Please don't vote Green this time in this race.

It will greatly improve our chances at a majority in the Senate and it will also destroy this Bushclone's chances in November.

25. Send whatever you can
I try to send Webb something each paycheck. Sometimes it's only $5, but if all of DU sends just $1, it will make a tremendous difference. I live in Virginia, and we need to eject this bozo out. I also contribute to Lamont. It's not just each state; it's our entire country. Let's grab it back by force!

30. Two reasons.
The people who vote for him are either ignorant of what he's really like or they're just like him themselves.

Luckily VA is turning blue. I just hope we've turned it blue enough to finish off Allen this November.

28. Now Webb has to take the ball and run with it.
Allen is almost as fond of football speak as he is of the Confederate flag. He's fumbled and lost yardage, and there's clearly been a penalty on the down, but it's up to Webb to capitalize on the mistake and gain some momentum. In politics, like football, making the most of your opponent's missteps is often the difference between a win and a loss.

34. Virginia voters are vindicated
While Jon Stewart was only joking that the incident would increase Allen's popularity in Virginia, some DUers seized the occasion to attack and insult Virginia voters by seriously predicting that result. Webb has a great opening here, and I think he has what it takes to make the most of it.

And to NOVA DUers who look down on the rest of the state as hopelessly red, remember that Kaine carried Hampton Roads and almost all the cities of Western Virginia-- Roanoke, Lynchburg, Danville, Martinsville, Charlottesville, Staunton, Lexington, and more. Webb can do the same and win big statewide.

36. Priorities May Be Entering People's Minds
Keeping your eye on the ball in my opinion means seeing
the priorities as clearly as possible. This race shows signs
of progress for the majority of us I think.
It may be the case that people are realizing that there
are issues that impact our lives to a much larger degree than
the same-sex marriage one. It shouldn't be the defining issue
with so many problems to address. Besides, there just aren't
that many people who involve themselves in this activity. I
no longer disrespect many who hold their conservative social
positions, but I haven't changed on accepting those who do
things that don't harm in any real way others.
