Why not? We **can** do it. Break our hydrocarbon addiction.
A presidential candidate stands at a podium, in front of an audience of American citizens. And he says, in a loud, clear, unwavering voice:

"I will work to make America free from the use of petrofueled cars in 10 years."

"I will further work toward the complete elimination of petrofueled transportation in 15 years"

"I will also work toward the elimination of the use of all hydrocarbon fuels in 20 years."

Will any candidate ever say this?

Why is this so hard to say? This goes to the right issues on so many levels. It weans us from a fuel that is destroying our environment. It goes to eliminating our overly intense preoccupation with things Middle Eastern. It goes to strongly invigorating our manufacturing base. It creates truly new, truly worthwhile jobs, even as it eliminates old ones. It invigorates our economy and works to bringing our trade deficit back in balance.

The technologies are there, rightnowtoday. They need refinement and development and research. But the essential technologies are here and now.

Tell me why not? Tell me why this isn't a viable plank for the 08 cycle.
