Rovian snake in the White House
Couple days ago I was startled by a snake in a rock pile. I knew snakes were around, but didn`t expect it to pop up when it did. It was a Karl Rove moment, a sobering reminder of his slithering agility. Take heed, Democrats, the snake is in the house.

We`ve snapped up any hints of teeny victories, hoping for evidence of shifting public opinion. Polls have thrown out a tidbit from time to time, but the trend can be reversed with a little bottle of hair gel and Karl Rove knows it. It would be great for Democrats to win as the result of lofty debates....principles of Unitary Executive, Constitutionality of Warrantless Wiretaps, but in the end I`m not sure any of that will matter. Rove`s smear machine is like a Bradley Tank against our pea shooter. This is no time for comity.

Rove`s message is hidden in his power. "Cut and Run." "Keeping You Safer." "Bringing Freedom." "Fighting Terror." It works so well that everyday Americans gather up their liberties and offer them to the White House. No questions asked. Here. Take them and keep us safe. Anyone who differs with this new system either wants to aid the enemy or isn`t man enough to face danger.

A Democratic Party win in November inserts the possibilty of investigations, censure or impeachment, all threats to the thuggery Rove has choreographed for years. You can bet there will be no holds barred in the coming weeks, from Swiftboaters to mindless cable news embeds. Don`t expect Progressive Democrats to pop up like Spring tulips. They rarely get air time. Somehow we must develop a citizen pressure cooker and use our voices to blow the lid off the place.

2. you are right. you are so right it even hurts...and moving democrats to
fight for and demand verified paper voting ballots needs to go right along with every thing that you are suggesting. without it we might as well all be doomed to just dreaming about a democracy that was.

3. Think about who Rove is targeting
He's targeting women voters - the "security moms" who are vulnerable to manipulation.

Rove realizes Dems biggest weakness is in its abandonment of its base - women voters. The GOP has been successful in carving out large chunks of the women's vote with years of propaganda about terrorism. Why?

Because Dems have neglected women voters over the years - and still do. The party spends millions trying to register voters at the fringes of the party (and of society) and is even courting the NASCAR crowd, but they keep ignoring their base of women voters - sort of like pinching pennies while the dollars go rolling down the road.

Dems have even forgotten how to speak to issues important to women - even the GOP does a better job of putting women in elective office.

Until Dems realize their problem, Rove and the GOP will continue to eat their lunch.

5. Issues for women
This is the second post in the last 24 hours that has implied that I, as a woman voter, have interests and concerns different from male voters. I can't think of one issue that my male friends do not hold to be important too. Am I missing something?

8. GOP counts on Rove to head off disaster
This is the headline in the USA paper today:

WASHINGTON — Karl Rove was waiting for the Southwest Airlines flight to New Hampshire to take off in June when his attorney sent him a welcome four-word message on his BlackBerry: "Fitzgerald called. Case over." Special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald wasn't going to try to indict the deputy White House chief of staff over the leak of a CIA officer's name.

"You could see he was relieved," recalls Wayne Semprini, the state Republican chairman who greeted him in Manchester. Relieved, and ready to unleash a typically caustic attack on Democrats for criticizing the Iraq war. "They may be with you for the first shot," Rove said at a dinner that netted $60,000 for the state GOP. "But they're not going ... to be with you through the tough battles."

Rove knows something about tough battles, and he's in another one. Freed from the uncertainty over whether he would face criminal charges — an indictment would have forced him to vacate his West Wing office — Bush's top strategist is focusing his full attention on the fall elections.

Some Republicans see him as their best hope for heading off disaster in November.

"If leading Democrats had their way, their policies would make our nation weaker and the enemies of our nation would be stronger," Rove said Saturday at a fundraiser in Austin for the Associated Republicans of Texas, an old-line party group. "That is a stark fact of modern life, and it is the issue on which the forthcoming election should center."

11. Pride Goeth Before a Fall
and it's nearly Fall, and Rove's been cocky since Fitzgerald took a powder...it should be a lovely explosion when Rove's hot air quotient exceeds his surface tension.
