Do scandals even matter anymore?
Yes, I'm in a somewhat pessimistic mood right now, but have to ask, do scandals even matter anymore? I sit back and watch all of these things going on and have to wonder, does the American voter even give a shit anymore? I just don't know.

1. If we had a George Bush gay sex video it would matter...
...but a video of institutionalized gay sex happening in prison facilities in Iraq? Well that's nothing. its not the presidents penis, that's all that matters

That's the kind of disconnect we are looking at with the conservative voter. Its time for us to to remove these morons from power for good, and their own thinking errors should inspire the exact blueprint of how that is to be done. :|

3. not if you're a Republican
On the other hand, the Republicans can create a scandal out of nothing where a Dem is concerned.

4. scandals are a symptom of the power struggle, not the cause
i.e., scandals matter when the powers that be want them to matter.

this is why clinton can be impeached for some side salsa. while the mere thought of impeaching shrub is ridiculous despite a very lengthy list of far worse.

when the powers that be are finished with you, THAT is when a scandal matters. the scandal is the MEANS by which they get rid of you. suddenly the press talks about the scandal as if it matters and you're finished.

5. During campaigns, yes. Otherwise it appears not.

We seem to be getting good impact from scandals if they happen during the campaign -- witness the VA and TN races. Otherwise, once the turd is in the bowl there seems to be no fishing it back out. Well, I guess Dukestir and DeLay are examples of that happenning, but some turds seem more slippery than others.
