"Hillary is the dream candidate of the Republican party. In my opinion, she's a Democrat's worst nightmare, as a presidential candidate"
Hardly. If she were they would not say a word about her. Funny how those opposing Hillary in the Party say it is Republcian plot to get Hillary when they something nice about her. And when the Republicans attack her, like after her comments to the NAACP last year, Democrats say the same thing. Fact is, the Republicans, having been burned time and time again by the Clintons are worried about her political, and fundraising prowess..
"The Republicans have a lie-based foothold on the "security issue." They've managed to convince America that they're tougher on terror. Hillary will symbolize weakness on terror--and weakness on family values/morality. America will be catapulted back into endless discussions of semen on "the blue dress" and salacious excerpts from Bill's and Monica's grand-jury testimony. We'll hear Bill say, "I did NOT...have sexual relations...with that woman" at least a hundred times."
Please, the Republican sleaze machine works when they level a new charge the American people have not heard before. Every charge has been heard on Hillary and evaluated. The Swift Boat attacks on Kerry worked because they were new, and because Kerry did an incredibly inept job of responding to them. No one in the party has more experience of success at dealing with Republican sleaze attacks, and effectively turning them to her advantage. Quite simply, she is the most talented politician in the Democratic Party
"America rejected all of this--and their revulsion of the lies and the scandals helped usher in the BushCo era. Do we want to take that chance again when there are dozens of other Dem candidates who don't have so many negatives?"
Baloney, Bill Clinton went out of office with a 65% approval rating, and his wife had just been elected United States Senator. We lost in 2000 because Al Gore, in his desire to distance himself from Clinton's problems, distanced himself from Clinton's record.
"Hillary is a lose-lose situation. She's got more baggage than a Louis Vitton boutique, and she has NOT been progressive on many Dem issues."
Again not true. The Republicans are going to ascribe baggage to any Democrat that runs. How'd Kerry turn out? Hillary is in fact progressive on virtually every Democratic issue. I urge you to examone her voting record more carefully
"In fact, she's been silent on most occasions. She's refused to denounce her vote on the Iraq war. Many Dems, including Kerry, Kennedy, and Edwards have come out against their initial votes. Hillary could have stood with them. She didn't. "
Hillary does not have to apologize. She made a principled vote. One that was not a call to war regardless of what most would have you believe. As she has made crystal clear in her on the IWR, and in a subsequent , she was voting to give the government added ammunition in its supposed effort to reintroduce inspectors. She was perhaps naive, as she has essentially admitted in her letter, for trusting the intelligence coming from Bush, but it is Bush that should be doing the apologizing.
