McCain Falsely Claims Most American Oppose Timetable For Iraq Withdrawal

Today on Meet the Press, Sen. John McCain claimed, “Most Americans — when they are asked ‘do you want to set a date for withdraw?’ — they say no.” Watch it:

McCain is wrong. Most American support a timetable for withdrawal. Here’s the latest CNN Poll:

CNN Poll conducted by Opinion Research Corporation. Aug. 2-3, 2006. N=1,047 adults nationwide. MoE ± 3 (for all adults).

“Which comes closer to your view about U.S. troops in Iraq? The U.S. should set a timetable for withdrawal by announcing that it will remove all of its troops from Iraq by a certain date. The U.S. should keep troops in Iraq as long as necessary without setting any timetable for withdrawal.”

.................Timetable %....No Timetable %....Unsure %
8/2-3/06...........57..................40..................4
6/14-15/06........53 .................41..................6

1. John "Maverick" McCain lies through his teeth...
...and cements his standing with the BFEE and their minions.

Until he outlives his usefulness of course.

Well, we can't expect our Senators and their staffs to keep up with national opinion polls, now, can we? Especially since in this day and age of Diebold, they don't really have to.

Next step: rigged polls, so that McCain and the rest of the Republican extremists can simply tell us what we think. Not that they don't already do that through the Mighty Wurlitzer -- but at least we still have polls to refer to that say something different.

I watched McCain on MTP.........his biggest fear is losing control of either house. He knows what would happen to Bush the Crook.

5. Wasn't Russert-was Gregory.
And no, although he (Gregory) is way better than Russert, he still had his "list" of questions and went full steam ahead. The usual excuse for this behavior is "to get him on the record."

McCain is an inveterate liar whose fondest hope is to become president and die in that office. A twit with a few sobering experiences in his life that he has parlayed into respect and subservience from his fellow practitioners. Typical republiclown hack.

4. The neocon rethug spin machine is ramping up..........
as the November elections grow closer. This should be a banner year for rethug lies and fabrications of the truth. Better restock the wine cellar now, it will be a very aggravating and agitating fall season.

12. Bush doesn't oppose a timetable
Texas Governor, G. W. Bush, that is.

=====

"Victory means exit strategy, and it’s important for the president to explain to us what the exit strategy is."

- Rice/Rove tutored TX Governor, George W. Bush, 4/9/99:

-

"I think it’s also important for the president to lay out a timetable as to how long they will be involved and when they will be withdrawn."

- Rice/Rove tutored TX Governor, George W. Bush, 6/5/99

=

=

"It doesn’t make any sense to have a timetable. You know, if you give a timetable, you’re - you’re conceding too much to the enemy."

- * George W. Bush, 6/24/05, forgetting about his insistance that President Clinton, "concede too much to the enemy".

14. "no option other than staying the course"
"The administration has done the wrong thing for the last 3 and a half years which leaves us with no option other than staying the course."

"Most Americans, when they're asked if they want to set a date for withdrawal, say no."
