I couldn't believe the BS I heard on "The Beltway Boys" on Faux
I had to e-mail them:

It was unbelievable that both Mort Kondracke and Fred Barnes wouldn't know what "macaca" means and what's worse, that they'd say George Allen didn't know what it means. Barnes claimed he asked around and nobody knew what it meant and of course Kondracke agreed, yet later said Allen said it in front of an otherwise all white audience to a dark-skinned person, which was a foolish thing to do (paraphrasing here). If he didn't know what the word meant how would he know to say THAT? By now ANYONE involved in politics knows that "macaca" is a French Tunisian racial slur for dark skinned person meaning "monkey." And George Allen most certainly DOES know what it means because his mother is French Tunisian! I guess you like keeping your regular viewers as uninformed as possible. Fair and balanced? Don't make me laugh.

(Once in awhile I watch Faux to see the latest spin they put on things. It makes me see how their "fans" continue to support Repubs.)

1. Well, I didn't know what macaca meant but
I know what macaque means, and I know what caca means. But the real point is that if I don't know what macaca means then I ain't gonna use it.

3. Exactly!
If he didn't know what it meant, he's an idiot for using it. If he did know, he's a racist. So, we know Allen is either an idiot or a racist. I'm betting that he's both.

2. I thought it was sitcoms or other types of programs...
...where you got paid the big bucks to get up in front of the camera and pretend you are stupid?
I mean, the whole POINT...at least, by implication and inference...about news programs was about being INFORMED?
:wtf:

5. How could a person use a word if they didn't know what it meant?
Edited on Sun Aug-20-06 12:35 PM by terrya
If that were the case, George Allen must be more ignorant than I thought.

9. They can't...
It makes NO sense. And especially for him to say "Macaca or whatever his name is" shows he KNEW it was an insult. Then to say it AGAIN and say "Welcome to America" shows he knows it's a racial slur. And what are the chances that his mother is French Tunisian and it's a French Tunisian slur?

6. If Allen didn't know ---
He was attempting to make the young man the butt of a joke. Allen's tenor in the video of the incident was one of derision,

11. I know, but...
For BOTH of these guys to pretend they haven't heard what "macaca" means seems even more unbelievable than the BS they USUALLY say.

13. You don't have to know what it means
I did not know what the word meant but when I heard Allen say it I assumed it was a racist comment.

14. Yes, when others hear someone say it...
they can imply or even know it means SOMETHING racist. But for the person who SAID it to not know what it means? I don't buy that he could USE the word without knowing what it means.

16. I think it has been proven already
that Allen knew what the word meant but Fox News loves beating around the bush for the republicans.

10. Even if we give him the complete benefit of the doubt
let's say he didn't know what macaca means. Why would he say it? It's not a name. It's not a word. Why would he say that? He had to know what it means!

19. He knew what it meant.
The Rethugs are just trying to muddy the water as usual. One aspect of the incident that they can't muddy is Allen saying, "Welcome to America" to someone who was born and raised in Virginia. That part of it, which is just as blatantly racist rarely gets mentioned in the corporate media.

20. Good point...
Edited on Sun Aug-20-06 02:55 PM by jenmito
The fact that he called him "macaca" along with saying "Welcome to America" put the macaca comment in context. And that should've been talked about in the MSM.
