Not Kerry, not Edwards, not Hillary, but someone from out there in the hinderland. Someone who could pull a large part of the country together, Dems and Repubs, with a very common sence platform. I don't think she will have an easy path to the nomination. She will be savaged by the Left and, were she to buy the nomination, she will be attacked from both the Left and the Right. Big Dog won't be able to save her, for it is she that is running for President.

7. It will be coming from all sides

I have to admit though, I can't wait for 2008 to get here. It is going to be one of the most exciting and entertaining election years in history, especially if Hillary gets the nomination. My main concern, if she were to get the nomination would be the record Republican turn out at the polls just for the purpose of voting against her. That could potentially be very painful for Democrat Reps and Senators from "Red" states as the record (R) turnout against Sen. Clinton just goes down the ballot and checks everybody with an (R) next to their name. Even if Clinton were to win the presidency we could see any gains made in congress this year go down the toilet in 2008 when the people turnout in red states just to vote against her, doesn;t even matter who the (R) nominee is at that point.

I really don;t care to see her get the nod, way to much drama and ammo for the other side and this side.

10. All I can say, for our sakes, it better not be Hillary.

I sincerely believe she is unelectable, will rally the Republican base back behind the Republicans, and a guarantee that her husband's fall from grace -- along with ALL the gruesome details -- will be the only thing discussed during the entire camapign.

8. This is not the conversation we need right now

I know it is interesting to prognosticate on this, but we have elections in less than 80 days that might decide whether we invade Iran or not, whether we get serious about the oil crisis, whether we privatize social security, whether we let a national sales tax even be debated or whether we crush that idea for good and we can't be divided or distracted right now. I would hope we can put this aside for a few months and focus on what is of immediate and critical importance.

18. I have nothing against Hillary.

In fact still feel twinges of loyalty simply by virtue of all the grief the Republicans put them through in the 1990s. However, it is precisely that that dissuades me from supporting her in a 2008 run. Keeping in mind the GOP Wrecking Machine will annihilate anybody we put up, they have a special brand of venom for the Clintons. And the Media Heathers have plenty of footage and gossip on her to fuel their cackling.

As evidenced by the article in question showing that she has a lower negative rating than either Gore or Kerry. She's been demonized much more strongly than either of them and for a much longer period of time. HRC is tough, probably more so than her husband (primarily as his greatest strength is his charm and charisma).

She is tough as nails and a wicked smart woman. And perhaps I've been exposed to too much HRC-hatred here at DU and that causes me to doubt her viability as a candidate. No matter though in my case because I have vowed not to support anyone that voted 'yes' on the IWR in the primary. I will, however, give whomever the Dems elect in the primary my very best effort and support in the general election, and am anxious to kick some GOP ass. :)

I liked her as First Lady, I'm so-so towards her as Senator. I think she would be an absolute disaster as a presidential candidate, and would oppose such a candidacy, but that doesn't make me hate her.

27. She would have been good

if 9/11, the War in Iraq, and the rise of the right-wing media never happened. We need a populist, plain speaking, outsider from preferably the midwest, southwest, or South. We need someone who fights for progressive values yet talks the language of Americans and discusses issues very pragmatically. I think Edwards, Warner, and Clark fit this mold.
