1. Same old shove her down our collective throats crap as usual.
She won't get the nomination. Thank whoever/whatever you customarily thank.

4. Time Magazines cover poll has only those two options and I wanted to see
what the DU response to the same poll would be. Time is asking people to mark their response on the cover and mail it back.

That is why there is no middle ground in the poll .... sorry....

:hi:

3. I don't hat Senator Clinton, I just don't think she would make a good
President and I think she wants this position for the wrong reasons.

5. God I wish we could find someone without all the past political baggage!
Not Kerry, not Edwards, not Hillary, but someone from out there in the hinderland. Someone who could pull a large part of the country together, Dems and Repubs, with a very common sence platform. The retreads have all that past history that will not go away. They come to the game with half the fans in the stands rooting against them from the start.

6. I want Hillary to run as much as I want genital herpes!
I don't think she will have an easy path to the nomination. She will be savaged by the Left and, were she to buy the nomination, she will be attacked from both the Left and the Right. Big Dog won't be able to save her, for it is she that is running for President.

7. It will be coming from all sides
Edited on Sun Aug-20-06 11:25 AM by madville
I have to admit though, I can't wait for 2008 to get here. It is going to be one of the most exciting and entertaining election years in history, especially if Hillary gets the nomination. My main concern, if she were to get the nomination would be the record Republican turn out at the polls just for the purpose of voting against her. That could potentially be very painful for Democrat Reps and Senators from "Red" states as the record (R) turnout against Sen. Clinton just goes down the ballot and checks everybody with an (R) next to their name. Even if Clinton were to win the presidency we could see any gains made in congress this year go down the toilet in 2008 when the people turnout in red states just to vote against her, doesn;t even matter who the (R) nominee is at that point.

I really don;t care to see her get the nod, way to much drama and ammo for the other side and this side.

10. All I can say, for our sakes, it better not be Hillary.
Edited on Sun Aug-20-06 11:40 AM by Totally Committed
I sincerely believe she is unelectable, will rally the Republican base back behind the Republicans, and a guarantee that her husband's fall from grace -- along with ALL the gruesome details -- will be the only thing discussed during the entire camapign.

And, we will lose. Again.

8. This is not the conversation we need right now
I know it is interesting to prognosticate on this, but we have elections in less than 80 days that might decide whether we invade Iran or not, whether we get serious about the oil crisis, whether we privatize social security, whether we let a national sales tax even be debated or whether we crush that idea for good and we can't be divided or distracted right now. I would hope we can put this aside for a few months and focus on what is of immediate and critical importance.

12. Don't forget - TIME also tried to smokescreen Gen. Smedley Butler...
...when he exposed the "Business Plot" to replace the FDR administration with a Mussolini-style fascist government.

Here we go again.

13. It's a continuum
A conversation about '08 does not preclude '06. It's perfectly healthy and natural to ruminate about '08 in the context of where we are now. And it does not stop work nor fundraising for '06.

9. I don't hate or love her.
She's fine in the Senate, wouldn't want to see her as president, because I don't think she's got the experience. Maybe in 15 years or so.

18. I have nothing against Hillary.
In fact still feel twinges of loyalty simply by virtue of all the grief the Republicans put them through in the 1990s. However, it is precisely that that dissuades me from supporting her in a 2008 run. Keeping in mind the GOP Wrecking Machine will annihilate anybody we put up, they have a special brand of venom for the Clintons. And the Media Heathers have plenty of footage and gossip on her to fuel their cackling.

22. She's a lot better at fighting it than most, however
As evidenced by the article in question showing that she has a lower negative rating than either Gore or Kerry. She's been demonized much more strongly than either of them and for a much longer period of time. HRC is tough, probably more so than her husband (primarily as his greatest strength is his charm and charisma).

24. you've got no argument from me
She is tough as nails and a wicked smart woman. And perhaps I've been exposed to too much HRC-hatred here at DU and that causes me to doubt her viability as a candidate. No matter though in my case because I have vowed not to support anyone that voted 'yes' on the IWR in the primary. I will, however, give whomever the Dems elect in the primary my very best effort and support in the general election, and am anxious to kick some GOP ass. :)

21. Too binary. I neither hate her nor love her.
I liked her as First Lady, I'm so-so towards her as Senator. I think she would be an absolute disaster as a presidential candidate, and would oppose such a candidacy, but that doesn't make me hate her.

The corporate media certainly seems anxious for her to be our nominee. I guess I should find that reassuring, since they have our best interests at heart. :sarcasm:

25. I abstain
I like what Mrs. Clinton represents - a strong woman. I like her as Senator from NY because she just make right wing hearts go all aflame. I LOVE that she pisses them off just by breathing.

I am njot fond of the idae of her runniing for president. Were she to win, however, I would be okay. Not thrilled, probably, but okay.

Edited on Sun Aug-20-06 09:23 PM by Superman Returns
if 9/11, the War in Iraq, and the rise of the right-wing media never happened. We need a populist, plain speaking, outsider from preferably the midwest, southwest, or South. We need someone who fights for progressive values yet talks the language of Americans and discusses issues very pragmatically. I think Edwards, Warner, and Clark fit this mold.

28. It's very disturbing that so many Duers "hate" her.
Do you "hate" her as much as Frist? How about Santorum? Chafee? Snowe? Do you hate her more than you hate Kerry? Or has that changed? What's up with you people?

30. based on the results of this poll, I'd say
that HRC has a very good chance of being the nominee in 2008.

considering how far out of step DU was with it's primary predictions in 2004.
