Poll question: So how many people wrote in their primary candidate's name in 2004?
Edited on Sat Aug-19-06 12:04 PM by LoZoccolo
A lot of people were threatening to write in their primary candidate's name in the 2004 general election if that candidate didn't win the primary. How many people followed through on this threat?

NOTE: I voted for Kerry in both the primary and general election in 2004, and do not advocate writing in.

ANOTHER NOTE: Please don't turn this into a discussion about which candidate's supporters were doing it more than others.

1. I voted for Kerry...but
Would have voted for Dean except he was virtually out of it by that time

2. I voted for Kerry in November
After casting an essentially meaningless vote for Dean in the primary.

3. Supported Dean, voted for Kerry in the general.
I did vote for Dean in the Ohio primary, though (even though he was out of it by then).

4. Do you know the total number of write-ins nationwide?
Just curious to know if this could have made a real difference.

5. We had caucuses not a primary
Edited on Sat Aug-19-06 01:20 PM by Mabus
From our local one there were Kucinich, Dean, Edwards and Kerry delegates.

fwiw, I was a Dean delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Boston. The night of Kerry's nomination I gave my credentials to my alternate, who was running for a state office, and she voted to nominate Kerry. I hung out at the Paradise Rock Club on Commonwealth Avenue the night Kerry was officially nominated with a bunch of other delegates and alternates.

6. I voted

for Dean in the primary even though Kerry had it pretty well sewn up by that time. It was my message to the Kerry camp.

In the general election I voted Kerry...actually I told myself I was really voting for Edwards, made it easier for me.

Cheers

8. Voted for my primary candidate in the general election - Kerry.
He was the most qualified, as I determined by research and watching the primary debates, and I was gratified that the primary voters agreed with me. (especially since my state's primary is so late as to be irrelevant).

11. I don't know of ANYBODY who did not vote for Kerry in 2004
And that includes many Democrats, Greens, and indies who disliked him far more than I do. We bought into the ABC strategery (Anybody But Chimp) for all it was worth. Which wasn't much in Ohio.

13. I didn't have to. Clark was still there even though he dropped out
I only turned to Kerry when Bush had disgusted me enough.

14. Oops
I thought it said write in on the Primary election. I voted for Kerry in the General Election. I really wanted to write-in my candidate, but it was going to be close here.

15. I voted Kerry. I didn't even write in my candidate for the primary.
Clark was already out by the time the primary happened here so I voted for Kucinich.
