Ted Kennedy gives Edwards im-Prez-ive boost
http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/444202p-374020c.html

Sen. Ted Kennedy caused Web whiplash among Democrats Tuesday when he sent out a mass E-mail appearing to tout John Edwards for President in 2008.

The liberal issued a rallying cry from Edwards' One America Committee Web site to join Edwards "in the call for a new direction in Iraq," adding:

"American troops are trapped in an increasingly bloody civil war between Sunni and Shiite sectarian groups, with no end in sight. As I've said all along, this is a fraudulent and unnecessary war. ... It's essential for President Bush to lay out a timetable as to how long our troops will be tied down in his misguided war."

The site offers an opportunity to make donations, prompting one Dem to wonder, "Is Kennedy now raising money for Edwards?" The former senator from North Carolina, who was Sen. John Kerry's running mate in 2004, has not announced he will run, but has been stumping in Iowa.

"I have been all over America and in every county in Iowa, and I spent an awful lot of time here a few years ago - and I might be back," Edwards told an audience in Storm Lake, Iowa, two weeks ago, adding quickly, "I'm not supposed to say that, by the way."

1. this is so stupid , rather than focusing on the issue of Iraq
they try to make the issue into political bickering among Democrats.

Ted Kennedy: I'd Support Kerry In 2008
By rob on October 12, 2005 at 7:10 PM 5 Comments
BOSTON - Sen. Edward Kennedy said Wednesday he would back fellow Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008 — even if Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton also pursues a White House bid.
"If he runs, I would support him," Kennedy told The Associated Press in an interview at his Boston office.

Gotto give it to Edwards though (as much of the politician he really has turned out to be...which I can't stand, personally)...between his excellent PR team, his great photo ops, his numerous trips to Iowa, His "says sorry about IWR vote" every chance he can and his Poverty Center, that guy is turning out to be pretty assertive when it comes to making his way to the White House!

9. Even in this article, Kennedy's office confirms he's behind Kerry
They also said the use of other's email lists is just standard practice.

5. What is it you don't buy?
I got that email, trust me Kennedy signed off on it. Why would you think otherwise?

People around here at DU are SO bloody quick to denigrate other Dem candidates, when it isn't their chosen one. It's damned silly and destructive and it needs to stop. Edawrds is a good man, and I support him, but if someone posted a story about Clark I wouldn't jump aboard to cast doubt on it.

Support whoever you like, it's fine by me, but don't down the others. I won't down yours either. Unless it's Lieberman.

22. It's the article's SPIN not being trusted. Or the motive behind the spin.
Edited on Sat Aug-19-06 11:59 AM by blm
Kennedy's made it clear that Kerry is his choice for 2008. He wants to help Edwards with his petition, but NY Daily News has spun it into a gossipy piece, no doubt to invent a conflict that doesn't exist. And an overzealous Edwards' supporter may have added to the gossipy tone.

Don't you think the ARTICLE made the leap, and the poster has every reason to suspect WHY the article made the leap?

24. The Daily News is such a rag....
They've even trashed Keith Olbermann, especially after he put one of the columnists on his Worst Person list, they also defend Bill O'Lielly.

25. It got worse when Grove went there. It's gossipy against all Dems.
They want to foment areas of conflict between Dem names now to distract from the problems within the GOP and BushInc. That way they don't have to print stories about what the Dems are saying and DOING, but instead distract from what they are saying by creating a horserace or barfight.

We all have to smarten up as a force and combat this media tactic.

27. It makes them APPEAR to be infighting and jockeying publicly more than
they may be at this time.

The media already KNOWS Kennedy has declared he's strongly behind another Kerry run. By purposely misdirecting his interest in Edwards' work on poverty, they turn his serious interest in the ISSUE to horserace talk which robs the issue of its details and foments discord and distrust in the Kerry and Edwards' camps and supporters.

Same old media manipulation.

7. Kennedy has already said he would support Kerry, if he ran in 2008.
That said, Kennedy has always been a fan of John Edwards--and why not?

Edited on Fri Aug-18-06 02:24 PM by karynnj
The email says he backs Edwards call on Iraq - which is not far out of line with his, Feingold's and Kerry's - This is the New York Daily News up to trouble. (Remember this was the newspaper Archie Bunker read).

Conveniently ignored by the OP :eyes:

"Sen. Kennedy's campaign does E-mail swaps with other campaigns all the time for list-building and fund-raising purposes," said Kennedy rep Stephanie Cutter, who assured us the senator is still in Kerry's camp. "Sen. Kennedy and Sen. Edwards are good friends, and work closely together on many issues, including the minimum wage."

13. But a political supporter from one potential candidate never swaps
email lists with potential rival. This may indeed be a signal.

15. Which must mean Kennedy is above all that
And people trust him with their email lists and/or it doesn't matter to John Edwards whether Kerry eventually benefits from it. He probably knows most folks are on Kerry's and Edwards' email lists anyway, and Kennedy's even, especially the people likely to be involved in primaries which is who he wants to reach most.

and that while he likes alot of Dems, including Edwards, he believes Kerry would make the best president.

14. Edwards is benefited by the proposed primary change
Edited on Sat Aug-19-06 12:03 AM by Ninja Jordan
Edwards plays well in Iowa. Its primary is immediately followed by Nevada, instead of NH. The key is for Edwards to win Iowa, so he can use it as momentum to place at least second in NV, frogleap NH, and win SC going into super tuesday.

17. This article is INVENTING a conflict to set Kerry and Edwards as rivals.
I can't believe people on the blogs are so dumb as to fall for it.

Kennedy has been unequivocal in his support for Kerry. He has strong ties to many Dems and really likes Edwards, but he has always said that Kerry would make the best president.

Expect alot of articles to pop up pitting Kerry and Edwards against each other. It makes for cold calculated manipulation and hot yellow press.
