Snakes on a Swift Boat
Edited on Wed Aug-16-06 02:45 PM by theredstate

MY OH MY! This past Sunday Gene Seaman (R-Corpus Christi) feebly tried to swift boat Harvard educated combat veteran, Lt. Cmd. Juan Garcia. Talk about stupid.... Talk about backfire.

"He's not a fighter pilot," Seaman asserted. "He never flew jets, he flew P-3s. He is not a fighter pilot even though he takes his picture behind a jet."

Let's go straight to our men who have risked their lives to defend our country:

Pat Thurman, a Corpus resident, former P-3 pilot and current squadronmate of Garcia's, said "Every naval aviator who receives their wings at NAS Corpus Christi goes on to serve in the P-3 community. They are forwarded-deployed fighting the Global War on Terror right now. Nobody should question their commitment." Said James Allen, who flew both EA-6B's and P-3's and now serves as a reserve Instructor Pilot at NAS, "I'm proud of my service, and am shocked that a State Representative would question it." Jeff Griggs, another former squadronmate at NAS, said, "At a time when fewer elected officials than ever have spent meaningful time in the military, Juan graduated from Harvard Law School and then volunteered for naval aviation. He spent 13 years in, and still flys as a reservist. I can't believe someone would question his service."

That is a smart campaign strategy: insult the men and women who serve in the military.

Shame on you Mr. Seaman! How dare you question a man's 13 years of active duty protecting this country! And for what, for your puny little political career? Your lack of honor and respect repulses me.

Your desperate and transparent ploy shows us how scared your campaign is. After 4+ terms that is all you can talk about? Pathetic. Apparently your lack of record forces you to go negative....

From BOR

  • Garcia spent 13 years on active duty as a naval aviator, after receiving his "Wings of Gold" here at NAS Corpus Christi.

  • In each of five fleet tours, he was ranked as the #1 officer in his unit (see attached fitness reports).

  • He has deployed to the Western Pacific, to the Persian Gulf twice, and served during the Kosovo conflict.

  • He has logged 2,500 flight hours in military aircraft.

  • His military awards include the Joint Commendation Medal, two Navy Commendation Medals, and two Navy Achievement Medals.

  • During the last three months, while balancing his full-time profession as an attorney and campaigning across the four-county district, Garcia has flown over 60 pilot-training sorties.

STXC is first out the gate. Vince at Capitol Annex & Hal at Half Empty has more on Garcia's flying/military record (including pics of the P3 Orion). John Coby at Bay Area Houston talks about the connection to Bob "Swift Boat" Perry. LFT is putting their outrage to action by having an "Outreach By The Beach voter registration drive on August 19 at 8:00 am. To sign up, go to www.latinosfortexas.com/events."

Of course, Pink Dome has the funny including the infamous Viagra clip where Seaman imitates an erection on the House floor (no, I am not joking... although I wish I was).

This is the time to help Juan Garcia and his campaign. Juan is one of three of the 2006 TexRoots Endorsed Candidates (FAQ). I have spent a lot of time covering the campaign and getting to know this candidate. Not only is Juan Garcia a wonderful person and good family man, he is a thousand times more qualified and educated than the current office holder. He's the best and brightest. Let's help him into office.

2. After reading your post
this Navy Vet would proudly go to combat under the command of LCDR Garcia.

In the first gulf war, the first pilots to fly into harm's way were Naval Reserve C-9 pilots. I guess they were just cowards unlike the brave Americans like limbaugh and hannity who support that other brave american george bush.

Please share with me mr seaman's military record..

4. Seaman's military record
I think he spent a handful of the years in the National Guard in Oklahoma in the 1950s. Honorable men and women in the military would never question a man's service to his country. Only a stupid man would question Juan Garcia credentials.... S. Texas has a lot of voters who are veterans. They won't fall for this type negative and fictious attack.

3. Well, he's questioning active duty service because it worked so well
for the pigs who smeared John Kerry and Max Cleland, to name but two. He's just playing by the repuke playbook as written by KKKarl.

Of course it's despicable, unAmerican, and, unfortunately, quite common.

6. The old "But he's not a fighter pilot" canard. Been there. Heard that.
Was Mr. Seaman a fighter pilot? Was Mr. Seaman a medevac helicopter pilot in a combat zone? The helo medevac pilots were the ones with the real balls, if perceived "manhood" is Mr. Seaman's point (and it always is when "but, he's not a fighter pilot" is their fall-back position).

As a veteran of over 250 air combat missions over Viet Nam, Laos, and Cambodia, I have heard this bullshit before. It seldom comes from anyone who has served in any hazardous flying duty (and low-level, night, over the open-ocean sub-tracking and maritime patrol in a P-3 is hazardous duty). Anyone that has been there know that each job, including that of fighter pilots, has its unique sets of hazardous and required skills to minimize those hazards. Only a goddamn fool would say otherwise, especially in a public forum "on-the-record."

But stupid is as stupid does. Thanks, Mr. Seaman, for proving that axiom again for us.

7. I have nothing but respect and
awe for the folks who put themselves in harms way to do their job and duty serving our country. Seaman is either really stupid, has really bad advisors or both.

I plan on spending a lot of Sept. and Oct. in Corpus Christi and the surrounding areas helping Juan.

9. republicons hate US Veterans who served honorably
Because the cons are led by a bunch of chickenhawk AWOL weenies, they go out of their way to trash any of our men or women who have served with honor in the military.

And then the republicons "claim" they are patriotic. Hardy har har.

Only from the party of AWOL Bush and Dick "Five Deferments" Cheney...

12. Sheesh, is Gene Seaman the new Elizabeth Bathory?
It looks like he has put his talons into this poor kid and is drinking the life force right out of him.
