Talking Points on real security for letters to newspapers
From the Leadership office http://www.DemocraticLeader.house.gov

1- The terrorist plot in Great Britain is another call to action that we must do everything possible to make America safer

2--As the independent and bipartisan 9/11 Commission warned,we are far from providing the real security the American people need

3-- Images on X-ray machines don't provide the information necessary to detect explosives according to a 2005 Homeland Security report an aviation screening recently obtained by The Associated Press. Machines used at most airports to scan hand-held luggage, purses, briefcases and shoes have not been upgraded to detect explosives since the report was issued.

4-- Our first responsibilty as eleceted officials is security of American people. New Direction Democrats are fighting to pass our roadmap to safety-the independent and bipartisan 9/11 Commission Recommendations.

5--Partisan politicking during this critical time undermines this obligation and Republicans scare tatics fail to make America safer.

6--We must work together to provide real security for the American people.

All right DU this is a start to taken the issue away from the Republican. Bush and boys are counting on taken this issue and winning in 2006. Lets show them we will not let it happen again.

1. And for my brother and sister veterans
Why under Bush has the V.A. budget been cut
Why under Bush has brain injury been cut
Why under Bush did 600,000 veterans be denied their health care last year alone
Why is Bush closing 18 VA hospitals
Why is Bush closing 3500 vet to vet clinics
why is Bush sending troops with PTSD back to Iraq on Meds.
Why is Bush not passing Bills on DU exposure
and the big one why won't Bush admit that staying the course is failing

2. How about a mention of getting off oil
Our addiction to oil is at the root of our current problems... from national debt, to economics and jobs, to environmental and health problems, to national security on several fronts.

The Democratic Party needs to make getting off our reliance on oil the central goal of this and future campaigns.
