Words that sound good with "radical"
Radical Republican
Radical Rightist
Radical Corporatist
Radical Elite
Radical Rich
Radical Neocon
Radical Globalist
Radical Imperialist
Radical Rentier
Radical Authoritarianism
Radical Advocate for Free Trade
Radical Advocate for Business
Radical Privatiser
Radical Outsourcer
Radical Tax Cuts
Radical Defense Spending
Radical New Surveilence Techniques
Radical Moralism

My point being, if radical is a dirty word, we should use it too. Frequently enough to render it noise. Same with "extreme" "angry" "hardcore" "fanatic" "rabid" "ultra-" and the whole lot.

If people are really so stupid as to be scared away from anything labeled "radical" you can bet your ass that they will be stupid enough to be scared into confusion when everything is so-called.

Spice it up people.

9. "Reactionary" isn't a good choice
It merely means extremely conservative, whereas "radical" has a far more negative and dangerous feel to it. A reactionary can just be your harmless old fart uncle, while a radical is someone who's capable of ruining the country.

Which one do YOU think Bush, et. al., resembles more?

13. Not neccessarily. Fascists are right-wing radicals.
Reactionaries want to go back to a mythologized "pre-liberal" past. Fascists want to creat a "post-liberal" totalitarian New World Order.

Why not? They support a fair number of the items on that radical's list of projects.

4. actually, I prefer to use the term "reactionary" when referring to all of
the above, as that is more truly descriptive than the actual meaning of the word "radical", which means, essentially, getting to the "root" of something. all these people are doing is reacting, not actually attemting to solve anything. but that is just me.

rad·i·cal ( P ) Pronunciation Key (rd-kl)

Arising from or going to a root or source; basic: proposed a radical solution to the problem

12. Yes! I'm a "Radical"....
The word "Radical" doesn't describe this new breed of Republican.

Radical's antonym, "Reactionary" seems more appropriate.

re·ac·tion·ar·y (rē-ăk'shə-nĕr'ē) pronunciation
adj.

Characterized by reaction, especially opposition to progress or liberalism; extremely conservative.
n., pl. -ar·ies.

An opponent of progress or liberalism; an extreme conservative.

17. There's semantics, and there's polemics.

Semantics win you academic debates.

Polemics win you power.

I'd say right now, we need a bit of the latter.

So I won't even bother to get into why neocons are by no stretch of the imagination conservatives and are in fact radicals -- the bad kind.

Instead I'll just reiterate: the American cattle is being prodded into running away from stuff labeled "radical" -- pick up a prod yourself, or get stampeded.

5. A good use of "radical":
When talking about off-the-wall fundies, refer to (for example) "the radical cleric Pat Robertson." He's every bit as loony as any fatwah-issuing mullah in Iran.

Keep it up, people!

And once we think up buzz-phrases like these, we need to USE 'em. Use the bejeeezuss out of 'em. Remember - it's important to repeat, repeat, repeat, to "kind of catapult the propaganda."

K&R - AND bookmarked.
