Economic Report: Young Worker Deaths At Work Increased in 2005

2005 was a dangerous year to be young and on the job. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has released their annual census of fatal occupational injuries. While the number of fatal work injuries in 2005 was down 1 percent from 2004, the number of workers under the age of 20 fatally injured on the job rose sharply. According to the census the rate was up 18 percent over 2004, amounting to 166 cases of fatalities.

1. Brings to mind the issue of employers being able to take out
life insurance policies on employees, without the knowledge or consent of the employee. This can and has led to a relaxing of safety requirements... wonder if there's any connection? nahhh, that's just *too* cynical
