Bush's Approval Rating Increase On Homeland Security. Why?
Click here to read the whole story.

<snip>

The poll was taken on Thursday and Friday, after British authorities foiled a plot to use chemical bombs to bring down as many as 10 airliners flying from Britain to the United States.

Are Americans confused about the U.S. roll in thwarting the plot? We had no role in monitoring or capturing the 23 plotters -- other than to push Britain to make the arrests now, vs. a week or so later, as Britain had wanted.

Maybe 55% of Americans said they were pleased with the Bush Administration because they were relieved that the country had escaped another Sept. 11-like tragedy. But if the average American knew that for seven months, the Department of Homeland Security had sat on technology that could detect liquid explosives, would they be as pleased?

2. Show me where those guys had any "liquid explosives"
It's been almost a week now & nothing, not even a second hand unnamed report. How could this be if they had these people under surveillance for a year?

Depends upon who they is. Remember, the Bush administration had nothing to do with the England plot-foiling. Except for that Bush almost blew it for the Brits, and they had to scramble. If MI5 had them under surveillance for a year, that doesn't mean Bush knew dick about it. Bush only jumped on at the last minute for the sake of his own poll numbers. He's a failed loser-boy.

3. i'll see your poll and raise you TWO polls

Terror Arrests Don't Impact Bush Approval

A day after British authorities broke-up an alleged terror plot, SurveyUSA conducted a poll in all 50 states, "to see what impact the sudden and renewed sensitivity to terror might have on Americans’ perceptions of the President’s job approval." The results found President Bush’s job approval was up a statistically insignificant 1 point, to 38%, from 37% in last month's poll.

These results mirror a CBS News poll released yesterday.

5. that's broad job approval, right?
the newsweek poll was specifically on his rating on homeland security. his overall job approval rating was still at 38%, unchanged from May.

7. yup ...
just thought these 2 polls sort of contradicted the idea that bush was making "political gains" from the London incident ...

you are absolutely correct to point out that they are polling with a different focus ... of course, one does wonder how his ratings could go up on "homeland security" and not on overall approval ...

maybe people realized how much other stuff he's messed up ...

..we did a poll for this same reason.

Bush always does good in this VERY RED state (even Among Democrats his numbers are better than nationwide).

His overall approval went from 55% to 61% since the last poll two weeks ago.

Thats our normal poll on Saturdays for both parties.

Our next exclusively Democratic member poll will be Thursday and Friday.

I'll let you know what happens then.

I wish other DUers would give the results of their polls. I would trust them more than the professional Pollsters.
