More bickering over black voters




In Republican gubernatorial candidate Ken Blackwell’s latest appeal to black voters, he charges that his Democratic rival Ted Strickland ignores minorities.

“Ted Strickland did not choose a woman or a minority as his running mate, WHY?” the glossy color flyer asks. “Why was Ted Strickland absent from this year’s NAACP and Urban League events?”

The flyer also says Strickland, a six-term congressman, has hired few minorities to work on his congressional staff and that he voted in 2005 against money for Head Start, an early childhood program that serves poor families.

Blackwell, who is black, portrays himself as a champion of minorities and the poor.
