Bob Beauprez demonstrated his poor judgment and the continued disorganization of his campaign when he failed to properly vet Janet “Jim Welker” Rowland before announcing yesterday that she will be his running mate.

Jim Welker is the Colorado State Representative (R-Loveland) who was shunned by his own party in 2005 for using stories such as a “lady in India marrying her dog” to polarize the question of marriage during budget debates at the State Capitol.

Similarly Rowland, as a guest on a PBS program last March, rambled on about a “man to marry a sheep” when asked about the merits of domestic partnership. Beauprez’s spokesperson claimed last night that “she regrets” the remarks.

Selecting such a careless extremist like Rowland not only further divides our state but represents the agenda that cost Colorado millions of lost tourism dollars due to Amendment 2 back in the 1990s. The type of remarks Rowland made have been disavowed by even the most conservative in her party for their hateful nature and potential damage to the reputation and economy of Colorado. Seems everyone knows that except Bob Beauprez.

I was one of those who boycotted Colorado. If we had to drive through it we made certain we had a full tank of gas and food and we cut across the smallest part to get where we were going. Before that it had been one of our most frequently visited places since it is close. I sent a letter to someone there telling them what we were doing.

It seems your state is much like mine, we get really nuts then we calm down a bit then we get really nuts again. A teeter totter state, no fun is it?

Yesterday ProgressNowAction network members joined in a petition calling on Bob Beauprez to replace his extremist running mate, Janet Rowland. Her recent comments about bestiality have embarrassed even members of her own party.

Beauprez failed to replace Rowland, demonstrating how extreme and incompetent he is.

The Rocky Mountain News reports this morning that Beauprez's campaign "snorted" at the suggestion that Beauprez replace Rowland and attacked members of ProgressNow: "They're bed-wetting, pampered liberals . . . No one cares what they say about anything. They have no credibility."

Oh really? Beauprez's campaign went off message just to attack you in the media. And you helped generate stories from the Rocky Mountain News to the Grand Junction Sentinel, as well as an editorial in the Denver Post blasting Beauprez for picking a careless extremist as his running mate.
