I do so want to be wrong about this -
ButI lived thru too many fights -

This is August the 14th today as I write this. Within 10 days this does start. I am sure.

I have a kid there moved to this front, (a little NCO that was supposed to go to Afghanistan) and I want to be wrong - but I know better.

I don't want to hear about Israel anymore - I am not Israeli - I know those reporters got imbedded with those dumb (American) kids for a good reason.

This fight is coming. And I don't think Jesus Christ could stop it right now. It is bad.

Joe

10. No I guess I can't.
But it is about right.

Some very nice combat vets at DU will cut my ass off.

They would be right to do so.

But it is about right. It makes me sick to say it, too.

7. I believe the OP is referring..
to the 22nd. Which is when the armageddon clock is scheduled to chime, if you don't mind me turning a phrase.

The 22nd is more and more being referred to by Ahmadinejad and radical fundamentalists as a day when things will happen.

It is also the day Iran is supposed to stop enriching uranium.

My personal bet is that Iran has already gotten a nuke (or multiple nukes) and that they intend to either test or even worse, launch a nuke at Israel. (For anyone who says that Iran is a long way from nukes, I am implying they have bought one on the black/grey market from Russia; it is even possible that they have done a covert deal with Russia involving oil rights in exchange for one or two of those mobile nuclear launchers complete with missiles all - I am not saying I know that for a fact or that it is even a likely scenario, it is however possible, and at that it is more probable than improbable)

25. No - I am the son of a soldier - and I can guess how
long it takes to get in a line to fight, really.

I think those people can all screw themselves - and I hope they do.

We only win by taking our money and walking away now. And I hope they kill themselves.

I am not exactly a pacifist - I understand american blood is worth an awful lot, though.

19. there is a reason we are sending more troops into Baghdag
More US troops, more sectarian violence, more tension with Iran, and now weaken Israel is still at mercy of Hezbollah rockets, it all points to negative forces converging rather than things heading toward a peaceful conclusion.

Most people in the US are unaware, but 130,000 men is not a heck of a lot to provide security when it comes to trying to extricate them amid sectarian fighting, civil war, or a massive influx of Iranian fighters into Iraq.

Worst case analysis, we could lose a huge number of men since we do not have the logistical support in place to extricate them if there were a huge flow of fighters over the Iranian border joining up with Iranian insurgents of Iraq attacking our troops.

The only options available to us would be the use of tactical nuclear weapons and massive air strikes that would set the entire Middle East on fire. Also Russia and China would weigh in.

If you're right the army must be morons.

I think the senior officers may be (morons)-

but my kid is just an NCO -

And frankly, my parents and uncles were senior officers - and they'd say the same as me -

Those seniors need to be replaced!!!

Fight is comming. Before the end of the month.

26. Joe I don't know which fight is coming, but the signs all say it is.
bush is standing on the sideline screaming bring it on, and somebody is going to answer him real soon. The Iraqi police force has dwindled to 100 showing up today, the rest threatened away....Baghdad is a powderkeg. Iran and Syria, emboldened by the Israel/Lebanon fight, are drawing lines in the sand and anxious to cross over them. And bush dances up and down the sideline goading them on.

I wish your son a safe homecoming....soon.

Bring em home...now!

24. This August 22nd stuff is nonsense
NOTHING will happen, save for another lazy, late-summer day with little or no real news to report on.

It's also possible that certain people may be juicing up "August 22nd" to then claim credit for stopping a terrorist attack that was never scheduled to ever take place.

Consequences are really serious.

How long does it take one to put toy soldiers in a line of battle - that is what whose kids

"Hail Mary, full of grace....."

34. So you don't think that the fight with Hezbollah
threw things off the track?

Please understand I mean no disrespect, and I recognize
that there is much you cannot say...but it seems like
madness for the U.S. to engage in any other fights
anywhere. Yet, from the tone of your posts, it sounds
as if you're convinced there will be a U.S. initiated
expansion of the conflict.

If that happens...WWIII will be well and truly begun.
I would expect a draft to follow soon thereafter, with
a full war-time set of controls to come. Even then,
I would not feel sure that we would win.

Can you tell me if my interpretation is too far from the
mark?

36. Maybe I can try?? -
I am a Catholic - I think I am still -

About a quarter of my family is jewish right now - and I love them too.

And my dad was with the Americans that liberated Buchenwald in 1945. I figure aout a quarter of Moms family died in such prisons in 44-45. You know??

No - you're not wrong. But I don't expect to lose THIS fight, either.

I think the interpretation is right - but not the intent.

Thats dude,

we are all on the same side here -

44. August 22 ...
I havent heard a thing about any of this until this thread got me surfing.
Sure sounds like hard core wingnuts have this date on their radar. Might be a good day to short the markets :)

(my appologies for linking this site but its interesting on this topic)
http://righttruth.typepad.com/right_truth/2006/08/august_22_irans.html

In my view it's not wise to consider this, as you say, "heavy speculation." It would be heavy speculation as to what, if anything, will be done on August 22. I for one believe there will be an announcement on August 22 that Iran will not accept the proposal, Iran has said as much, but they will do it in a way that pins their hopes on capturing the Ummah.

But the reason to believe this is more than just some paranoia, other than the history of Islam, is that Iran's political figures have stated something indeed will happen on the 22nd and there is no question Ahmadinejad wants to bring forth the 12th Imam. One doesn't drop notes down a well in Qaim, allegedly where this Imam has been living for centuries feeding on well water and sand, to the Imam for nothing. There can be no serious denying Ahmadinejad's quest to bring forth the return of the 12th Imam and his desire to unite the Ummah, but is it this date in which he has already signaled the day he chooses to try to bring about that change? I don't know, but it's rather strange that no major publication has yet to discuss this topic, that is until the WSJ and I just hope it was in their print version.
