World War II - 1345 Days Iraq - 1242 days (to date)
14 August 1945 - Japan unconditionally surrenders to end WWII. bush's excellent adventure into lunacy and death and destruction and despair and the ruination of the military and skyrocketing debt will soon outpace our time involved in WWII and soon more American Kids will have died in Iraq because of bush's lack of leadership then died in the September 11th attacks because of bush's utter disregard of any and all advice given him by the Clinton Administration. Yes, "conservatives" in America have so much to be proud of and so much to look forward to.

1. Why the Bush wars don't cause the same despair as WWII

WWII impacted more people in more ways than Bush's wars. There was a more widespread feeling of everyone being in the same boat. Members from all ranks of society served, and rationing affected all economic groups (though admittedly, those with more money behaved just as those with more money have always behaved). In short more people "felt the sting" of war than in today's lunacy.

3. What are you using as the starting date of WWII?
September 1, 1939?

From the number of days you give, I suspect you're using December 7, 1941, and that's not correct.
