Question:Sen Pat Repug Roberts let it slip thisAM that Brits got warrants
albeit by phone, for surveillance of the suspect terrorists.

Anybody know about the authorizing laws in GB concerning bugging, wiretaps etc and whether or not they were warrantless???

1. I can only guess.
I'd bet that they try to follow the law, rather than make excuses for why it does not apply to them.

Legal surveillance, not illegal eavesdropping, stopped the U.K. terrorist attacks

By Glenn Greenwald

As I noted on Thursday, Bush supporters have been attempting to exploit the U.K. terrorist plot to bolster support for an array of extremist and lawless Bush policies -- from warrantless eavesdropping to torture -- even though there is not a shred of evidence that any of those policies played any role whatsoever, either in the U.S. or England, in impeding this plot.

<snip ~ but a whole lot more>

I think it's important enough to post several times over

3. O'Reilly said they had warrants on his show the day the news came out
But all the Republican Senators are trying to make it sound like they had no restraints on spying in Britain.

The way I understand it, a neighbor reported them.

5. Gawd, who cares what O'Reilly says !!!
I'm sorry, but the rut-face bastard is an insignifant, loofah sniffing, whiney ass WIMP.

My favorite DU alibi's:

"I never tune in, but I was channel surfing and..."

"My dog stepped on the channel changer and turned on O'Reilly..."

"I need to keep up with what the enemy is doing..."

Yeah.
Sure..
