"WASHINGTON, Aug 13 (Reuters) - U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman should bow out of the November's congressional race altogether after his defeat in Connecticut's Democratic primary, a top Democrat said on Sunday.

Lieberman, a three-term senator and Democratic vice presidential nominee in 2000, lost to political newcomer Ned Lamont in Connecticut on Tuesday and said he plans to run as an independent in the November election.

Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said Lieberman should support his party -- and Lamont -- rather than running against him to defeat the Republicans.

"I know how hard this is for Joe, and he is a good person, but the truth is I lost one of these races and I got behind my party's nominee and I think that is what you have to do if you want to help this country," Dean, former governor of Vermont, said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

"The way to help this country is to limit Republican power."

3. I think Nomentum will lose and switch to Repuke.
It's his only option for grabbing back power. Maybe he'll run for CT governor.

5. Dean's right.
Jump, Jihad Joe! You were scorned, and it's time to show you actually care about people by respecting their choice and dropping out.

6. There are many folks like Lieberman in this party....
that if they lose a primary they will take the party down with them. The DLC crowd would rather sink the ship then see anyone else at it's helm. They are in league with the Republican establishment that have the same suicidal mindset.

Putting these guys to bed is going to require more than just beating them in primaries. The DLC and the Republican party are not going to let go of the wheel willingly.

7. Dean is absolutely correct, but...
I don't think Joe's going anywhere. I think he's in it for the duration. I hope I'm wrong, though.

8. Mehlman is a freaking liar
and in heavy denial with this: "MR. MEHLMAN: David, there’s no question we’re in a tough political environment. We’re in the sixth year of a president’s term, we know that. We’re in the middle of a tough war. But the focus now is going to be who’s on the ballot? What are the choices? And I don’t believe Americans, in the middle of a tough war, as they see these plots, want to weaken the tools and surrender the tools that are critical to keeping Americans safe. I don’t think they want to weaken how we interrogate potential terrorists. I don’t think they want to weaken the surveillance. I don’t think they want to kill the Patriot Act, and I certainly don’t want to think that they give the enemy the kind of victory that the 9/11 Commission had said they would have if we cut and run from Iraq"

Mehlman totally ignores the polls saying what Americans want! I'm also sure that if a Dem gets in the WH in '08, these people will not be so happy about all the executive power the Dem would have after *'s power grabs the past 5 1/2 years. I also note that he lied at the end of that interview. I don't recall the 9/11 Commission saying anything about Iraq except that it was not responsible for 9/11. Where did Mehlman pull that statement out of that the 9/11 Commission uses repub talking points?! Do these asshats really know the meaning of "cut and run?" Man, talk about living in denial!!

Howard was great though!!!!

9. The one thing I wish Dean had said today
when he was asked if there was "no room is the party for proIraq democrats" is something like "This decision was made by the grassroots, by the Democratic voters of Conneticut, not the DNC, not any part of the party organization, the people decided this election."
