War Without Reason
As the Iraq and Afghanistan occupations continue one wonders how we ended up in this predicament : having to support two nations of barbaric murderers and pretend to set up a democracy based on freedom and equality in a land and amongst peoples that have a hatred yet for us in their hearts.
We can look back to the words of Sir Francis Bacon, who, over 350 years ago wrote these words, “As for the wars which were anciently made, on the behalf of a kind of party, or tacit conformity of estate, I do not see how they may be well justified: as when the Romans made a war, for the liberty of Grecia; or when the Lacedaemonians and Athenians, made wars to set up or pull down democracies and oligarchies; or when wars were made by foreigners, under the pretence of justice or protection, to deliver the subjects of others, from tyranny and oppression; and the like.”
I do not see why once the threats represented by the Taliban and the make-believe threat of Hussein that this nation must persist in supporting the army, air force, navy, marines and some elements of the Coast Guard in occupations that yield nothing for the general good of America and even less for the occupied countries.
How long must we support this continued adventure? How long must we bear the brunt of the foolishness and lies of foreign nations? What has happened to the American business ethic? Where lies the profit?

4. China is making a deal with Iran for their oil
Edited on Sat Aug-12-06 10:31 PM by patrice
Our control of Iraqi oil gives U.S. mega-corporations the wherewithall to compete in the global economy dominated by India and China (with Iranian oil). That's why we will never leave Iraq. That and the fact that Iraq is sitting on the major source of fresh water in the region. Water that Israel needs.

In addition to the global economy: When the occupation of Iraq began, U.S. Oil was going broke, because it cost more to get it out of the ground than American oil-men were making on it at something around $11. a barrel. They're doing just fine now, thank you. Another government bail-out for bad business leaders.

As a client state of Iran, Lebanon figures in this somehow too, especially since they can offer ports on the Mediteranian Sea. They probably figure in the pipeline deals that are being made and that's why we don't give a shit that they are being destroyed AGAIN.

No Blood for Oil!

P.S. Though I don't agree with your choice of words either in re two nations of barbarous murderers (because I think the U.S. has done plenty along those lines too and I wouldn't characterize us as barbarous murderers) I HOPE you don't take toooooo much offense at being called a shithead before you even got your post count over 100. There ARE people on this board who thrive on hostility. I'm sorry about that. I welcome you and I hope you at least don't feed the trolls, should you encounter any, and maybe even try to engage them in reasoned discourse. Good Luck!
