I hope the Star titles this one: Cheney's CYA . . .
Even by today’s standards, it is unusual for a sitting vice president to call a special news conference and comment on primary election results. Is it possible that Vice President Cheney, with fore-knowledge of events that were about to transpire in England this week, was trying to set the stage for the U.S. public learning that occupation of Iraq does not contribute to success against Terrorism? Is Vice President Cheney a politician? Do politicians use the media to influence the public?
Vice President Cheney’s remarks about Ned Lamont’s primary victory encouraging “the al-Qaida types“ may also have been a reaction to a recent bipartisan survey of 100 top American foreign policy experts published by The Center for American Progress,
http://www.americanprogress.org/site/pp.asp?c=biJRJ8OVF&b=1826603 . Eighty-seven of those 100 foreign policy researchers report that occupation of Iraq damages our efforts to defeat Terrorism.
Perhaps Cheney would prefer that we believe all Terrorists are in Iraq and all of them are scared of, not motivated by, death and dying.
On edit: Sorry, I forgot the link to Center for American Progress . . . Back in a minute.
