LTE K.C. Star re Cheney's comments on Ned Lamont this week.
Edited on Sat Aug-12-06 10:30 AM by patrice
I hope the Star titles this one: Cheney's CYA . . .

Even by today’s standards, it is unusual for a sitting vice president to call a special news conference and comment on primary election results. Is it possible that Vice President Cheney, with fore-knowledge of events that were about to transpire in England this week, was trying to set the stage for the U.S. public learning that occupation of Iraq does not contribute to success against Terrorism? Is Vice President Cheney a politician? Do politicians use the media to influence the public?

Vice President Cheney’s remarks about Ned Lamont’s primary victory encouraging “the al-Qaida types“ may also have been a reaction to a recent bipartisan survey of 100 top American foreign policy experts published by The Center for American Progress, http://www.americanprogress.org/site/pp.asp?c=biJRJ8OVF&b=1826603 . Eighty-seven of those 100 foreign policy researchers report that occupation of Iraq damages our efforts to defeat Terrorism.

Perhaps Cheney would prefer that we believe all Terrorists are in Iraq and all of them are scared of, not motivated by, death and dying.

On edit: Sorry, I forgot the link to Center for American Progress . . . Back in a minute.

The Star is VERY reactionary and this letter is about 15 words over their limit.

3. Very nice, thanks.
Do I detect a little sweat on Cheney's forehead?

"This part tells it all: It's unusual for a sitting vice president to call a special news conference and comment on primary election results".

What does that tell us? Especially when Dick conjures up images of Taliban, Al Qaida Boogey Men under every bed.

He's scared, plain and simple. They are sweating, big time...

4. Bush sounded particularly bad at the press conference in Florida
Wednesday.

My guess is the UK and Pakistan did the whole thing and our NSA was only told at the last minute so they could at least say they were in on it.
