Lieberman to run first post-primary ad
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 06:08 PM by dolstein
According to the Hotline, the add will run through earlier next ween and possibly longer.

http://hotlineblog.nationaljournal.com/archives/2006/08/joe_liebermans.html

Here's the script:

<<This week we had round one of the U.S. Senate race. Now round two begins. I want to thank my supporters and explain to all you why I've decided to fight on. I'm staying in this race because I want to keep working for the things that matter to you. I've led the Senate on issues like national security the creation of the 9/11 commission; efforts to stop global warming; protect social security and find cures for diseases like cancer and diabetes. And I'm staying because I want to help end the war in Iraq in a way that brings stability to the Mid-East and doesn't leave us even more vulnerable. So much needs to be done, but so little is actually getting done in Washington because our politics have become so partisan and polarized. My 30 years of experience has been about bringing people together. I'm Joe Lieberman. And I approved this message because it's time for a new politics of unity and purpose.>>

Now I suppose that Lamont's supporters would beg to differ on Lieberman's claim about bringing people together. But Lieberman's defeat has been portrayed by many in the media as punishment from more partisan Democrats for being too willing to reach across the aisle. So this kind of message could have some appeal to independents. That said, I think Lieberman undermines his stated purpose by taking nasty potshots at Lamont over terrorism and Iraq. If Lieberman were smart (and I've seen little evidence of that based on the campaign run so far), he'd stick to the high road, stop talking about his opponent, and focus on what he'd do if re-elected.

1. Yeah, especially unifying was Joe's charge that CT voters help terrorists
by nominating Ned.

Irony doesn't usually jump off the page and bite ya' in the nose like that.

2. Excuse me, but Lieberman's got nothing on Lamont and his supporters

when it comes to dividing the party.

If Lamont were really interested in building unity, perhaps it wasn't such a good idea to embrace the bloggers and their nonstop scorched earth campaign against Lieberman. Seriously, calling Lieberman (and, by extension, those who support him) DINOs, traitors, Judases, backstabbers, etc., probably wasn't the best idea. Of course, that was the only way Lamont could win. Well, you reap what you sow.

4. Lieberman IS a traitor...
He has gone to Karl Rove for help and is using Republican smears to attack Democrats. He is scum. Thankfully here on DU we won't have to put up for more campaigning for the guy since Lamont is the Democratic nominee... not the Republican shill like Holy Joe..

8. Lieberman is delusional and dangerous for CT and the USA
Any senator returning from Iraq who says that the situation in Iraq is honkey-dory because Iraqis he saw had cell phones and satellite dishes, needs to be put in a mental institution, not the senate.

5. He's running as an OUTSIDER???
Didn't the voters of CT just prove that they ARE NOT RETARDED? This is mind-boggling. I have every expectation (and boundless hope) that he's gonna go Katherine Harris crazy very very soon.

he have money left over? This is what Sam Seder was talking about with Atrios yesterday---how doe we know he's not getting money from the GOP or worse yet, some DLCers right in the Dem party?? Atrios says the reporting post-primary isn't as quick as the requirement are leading up to an election....
