W desperately needed a success about now and this thwarted airline terrorist plot was a political godsend in that it draws attention away from his other multiple quagmires. And, I think it is great that this plot was uncovered and lives saved.

It's just too bad that his need to milk this for all the terror he can get will drive our airline industry out of business due to the hysterical overreaction of the TSA. How many employees is that? You know all those unfunded airline pensions? They all just got even more unfunded. Guess who is going to pick up the tab?It will also ripple through to all tourist destinations, restaurants and hotels in those locations, rental cars, etc. How many employees is that? I bet there are hotels all over the country with ringing telephones right this minute with people canceling reservations.

There had to be some more sensible solutions. I suggested in another thread that they could collect all the carry-ons and have the crew put them in randomly assigned LOCKED overheads for the duration of the flight. Problem solved.

There might be one small positive - the airlines tanking will take some of the pressure off the oil markets
