Sharp differences over President Bush, the MZM bribery scandal in Congress and immigration highlighted a forum Wednesday featuring 5th District Rep. Virgil H. Goode Jr., R-Rocky Mount, and Democratic challenger Al Weed of Nelson County.

A largely partisan and divided crowd of about 300 people at the Senior Center of Charlottesville heard Weed attack Goode as a career politician who takes questionable contributions and supports Bush more than 80 percent of the time, including on the war in Iraq.

Weed, who has a son about to serve a second tour as a surgeon in Iraq, said Goode “follows the Republican lead at every turn” and has never questioned Bush on his war policy in “the failed occupation of Iraq.”

Goode:

Goode? Weed?

Tastes great? Less filling?

:smoke:

Seriously, I was hoping for a more potent kick from Weed. :(

2. Keep in mind that this is a much longer-term strategy
than just hoping to pick up piles of seats in one election.

We're repairing the damage that's been done to our party. We getting our integrity and respectability back. It's going to take time.

Weed is doing a great job showing leadership, and planting seeds. If he keeps it up we'll be in great shape.

6. In other words, the far left is too busy attacking Democrats
to actually fuss with any Republicans.

By the way, Democrats have always had integrity and respectability. It's the far left that America doesn't trust or like, for what are thuddingly obvious reasons.

7. I didn't see Weed attacking Democrats.
I just saw him disagreeing with his Republican opponent.

I know, it's a real change of pace. But, it'll work in the long run. Seriously!

15. I hope Weed Smokes 'em!
Just because we need a Congressman named "Weed" in the House. Every two years, the WashPo runs a contest for the best made-up bill with Congressmen's names.

Now we just need to get Kurt Schmoke (former mayor of Baltimore) to run for Congress. Then they can sponsor the "Schmoke Weed Bill". :D
