Top level pay grew at a slower level last year. A study from Mercer Human Resource Consulting says that while in 2004 corporate directors received an average raise of 17.4 percent, in 2005 the raise was only 6.1 percent. The average pay increase for a worker in the U.S. was only 3.1 percent. The median pay for directors at 350 publicly traded companies in the United States was $164,637 in 2005.
