is that none/very few of the important Dems are telling Joe not to run as a Ind. I don't understand why they are so reticent to do so publicly.

Please don't get me wrong - I'm not really blaming them for that. It's the way of politics. The reason I'd never make it more than a day as a politician.

That said, I'd really be so proud and supportive of any Dem who had the guts to say it!!

...have immediately come out and endorsed Lamont basically sends the same message.

If leading Democrats had held their silence on the results, one might think that they had decided to sit this one out, not willing to criticize the Democratic nominee, but secretly hoping that Leiberman would win. But that is exactly what did not happen, with even a centrist and Lieberman ally like Evan Bayh endorsing Lamont almost as soon as the votes were counted.

By now, it should be clear to Lieberman that "if you run, you run alone."
