I think I found what brought down Lieberman's site.

http://www.joomlapolis.com/ It's in the first news item.

Community Builder is a add-on for the Joomla website system, which was the basis for the Lieberman site. Normally, Joomla is good stuff, but Community Builder is a very comprehensive addon, which installs to about every part of the system that takes addon stuff(modules, components and mambots).

Community Builder is designed to give a site a "MySpace" kind of community function.

Now, I cannot confirm this. I expect the parties involved wouldn't want this to get out and would schtum up if asked. That said, this is no coincidence that such intensive work has been taking place on a Joomla addon in the last 24 hours and that the tone of this message on the Joomopolis site is so...intense.

I got $5.00 that says that this is the cause.

On edit: I have been spending part of the day setting up Community Builder on a Joomla site and have been on the Joomopolis site several times. This is a very recent article on the site.

1. A "MySpace" kind of function?
So, all they'll get out of this nonsense is some lame unknown rock bands an 354 people claiming to be Paris Hilton.

And profiles with five videos and audio files playing at once.

2. Well...
The core concept of MySpace is not bad, the problem is in the interpretation and execution. ;-)

Perhaps what we all need is a MySpace-type site without all the little kids.

My God! Some of those pages look like updated versions of old Geocities and Angelfire sites!

Though, I gotta say, I wish I came up with the idea. The founders sold the damned thing to Murdoch and pocketed half a billion dollars!

Angelfire filtered through medication non-compliance and even worse taste. ;-)

10. Actually, there is one
That is, there is a MySpace ripoff that is adults only. Unfortunately, the adults only leaves people free to post, well, adults only material. I'll leave the rest to your imagination.

3. Olbermann said he should've spent more than 10 bucks on his website..
...Or maybe it was fifteen bucks?

Whatever it was.. they said he went with a dirt cheap, bottom of the barrel, low-tech site.

5. Joomla is not crap.
Not by any means. Many campaigns, NGOs and businesses are using Free and Open Source software for websites, Groupware and more. It works and it puts more money into the website weenies and saves money for campaigns to use for other things. The fact is that someone very, very geekish knew of the exploit and...well...exploited it.

Frankly, I think the fact that knowing of this exploit is such an esoteric thing, I doubt that anyone at the Lamont campaign had either the time or the inclination to go hire someone who knew about it and could use it. Which makes the Lieberman campaign's accusations all the more bullshit.

9. Keith defaults to bloodying noses.
And that's cool. That said, I wouldn't call him especially adept and knowledgable about Open Source Software, especially PhP/MySQL website software. ;-)

On the other hand, who knows what he does in his offtime. He could spend half his day on Slashdot. :D

6. No, that's the Kos party line. But it isn't the truth
Talking Points Memo reported yesterday that Lieberman's web hosting account had been substantially upgraded a while ago and that the bandwidth and server space has been expanded. As per his policy, Kos never issued a retraction or correction to his original uninformed and inaccurate statements.
