Democrats abandon Lieberman, back Lamont
"I think it would be irresponsible and inconsistent with my principles if I were to just walk off the field," Lieberman said in an interview with The Associated Press a day after his loss to the political newcomer in a race that was considered an early referendum on the Iraq war.

QUESTION: Where were these "principles" and refusal to "just walk off the field" in 2000?

1. I have a problem with their headline "abandon Lieberman"
That just has such a negative conotation.

It's not about "abandoning Lieberman." It's about supporting and backing the rightful Democratic nominee, as determined by the voters of Connecticut.

4. How was he abandoned? He lost his primary after many of them came
out to support him for fundraisers and everything.

Welcome to DU by the by.

16. Thank you! He lost an election, for crying out loud.
The voters decided he would not be the Democratic nominee.

He needs to accept the will of the people and move on.

8. Lieberman abandoned the Democrats. He left us for independence.
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 09:57 PM by aquart
He is RUNNING AGAINST US. He is our OPPONENT.

We didn't abandon him. There were many roles he could have played in our party. Look at the defeated Dean. LIEBERMAN LEFT US. He just walked away, tossing insults behind him.

We owe him nothing.

But thank you for your concern, and welcome to DU.

18. Agreed, he left long before now. You can't abandon what has
abandoned you.

2. I was reading the article and I
scanned down and saw they interviewed the dickcheney who said it shows "Democrats are at a pre-9/11 mindset"..poor dick, he wishes that were all fresh and new and he wasn't recycling stale sewage garbage and the American public hadn't caught on to his perpetual lies and demagoguery. I wonder if ever makes himself sick?

And ol' joe and his whining about irresponsible and inconsistent..damn straight it would be inconsistent to support the winner. lieman has a history of doing what's good(he thinks)for joe and not his country or his dearly departed par-tee.

11. That's why they've trashed our military
and left us undefended on 9/11 and since. Yeah, so strong.

They know how to torture, not govern.

12. WHY ARE YOU YELLING?
And no, the Democratic Party didn't abandon Joe -- he abandoned the party. He did that a long time ago, by hanging out with the PNACers and shilling for Bush's war and kissing Bush's ass. He hasn't been a Democrat in a long time; it just took having his ass handed to him by a real Democrat who represents the opinions of the actual electorate that forced him to admit it. Joe turned his back on the Democrats and insulted the voters. Screw him.

17. Joe's "principles"...
...translation: "the committment to selling Democratic values down the river that I've so strongly demonstrated for the past 18 years."
