RNC Chair Mehlman REFUSES to endorse Schlesinger for CT Senate
Just a few minutes ago, on Hairballz, when asked the question directly and unequivocally by Tweety, he danced, he sputtered, he deflected, he did everything but endorse the REPUBLICAN candidate running against Ned Lamont and that other guy.

Asked later in the program if he would at least encourage donations to Schlesinger, he again did the avoidance dance.

Coupled with the now confirmed reports of a phone call from Rove to the third party Connecticut candidate, this **really** gives one pause, does it not?

3. Can they do that?
Wasn't there also a Republican primary yesterday? If so, doesn't that set the slate for *both* parties in stone?

I know Schlesinger has some issues with the dice and the cards and the casino lawyers, but I didn't know there was some back room intrigue regarding his candidace at this late stage.

Do tell!

7. Hmmmm ..... that colors my reaction to Mehlman's equivocation quite a
lot. I was thinking he was being cute for the sake of the third party guy ... what's his name? .... rather than not being fully behind the current repub guy.

9. Not necessarily
If only one guy is running and there are no challengers they just go to the general election.

4. I suspect Schlesinger is about to be persona non grata'd.
Airbrushed out of all photos. He will not exist by Labor Day.

No one deserves to be used like this. Maybe he'll switch parties after Novemeber.

8. The rove call has been confirmed? Really?
I hope the Lamont campaign makes BIGTIME hay out of that one. They need to LAMINATE Lieberman AND whoever runs on the GOP end to bush/rove. Just LAMINATE 'em. EPOXY 'em. And then REPEAT.

11. Per Tweety, the call was confirmed by SteppinOutOnUs in a conversation ...
.... with an officially sanctioned Lieberman spokesperson.

SteppinOutOnUs reported it first on his blog, and has since confirmed it.

14. AHA! Well, I hope Lamont makes some BIGTIME hay out of that one.

That, I think, could lock in his November victory for sure.

I just want to see LOTS of campaign commercials out there that morph the face of whoever the republi-CON candidate is - into bush's face. That's all they'll have to do.

PS - thanks for the response and confirmation. And I LOVE that reference to "SteppinOutOnUs!" That he sure did, at least with Clinton. What a fair-weather friend he turned out to be.

10. Different Rules Than In Texas?
They would not let Delay replace himself after stepping down, but are the laws different in Connecticut? Could the repub primary winner quit, and name a replacement on the November ballot?

13. I called it over a year ago. What a bloody shame. Poor Joe's soul.

He's now a little toy soldier in Rove's play army.

It doesn't matter what Joe does now.. his life will be so much smaller. He lost the Dem nomination. Now he has to try to make a political life out of being a Repuke (and voting against 85% of the issues he used to care about and fought for... or he goes independent and messes up his own party...so they will not be able to do anything about the 85% of Dem issues Joe used to care for).

A life diminished with a Sophie's Choice.. one more time.

:sarcasm: Nothing to worry about. Nothing at all to worry about at all. Nothing to stop Joe in his tracks and puke at.. Another life diminished.. another day for Rove to celebrate. More fuel on the fire to make some feel that Dems are suddenly anti-Semitic. What fun! What joy. And another group will start to think with only reptilian parts of their brains. Cause they have been made even more afraid than they were a few months ago. :sarcasm:

15. Can the GOP endorse Lieberman as their candidate?
It is not unusual in New York to have one of the smaller parties endorse the candidate of one of the major parties, or even put hid/her name on the ballot under the party's banner.

18. NY
New York and several other states have what is called fusion. What that means is that several parties can put the same person on their ballot lines and all the votes cunt towards that candidate.

19. Did Mathews say he can't support Lamont?
David Brock should have a field day on this guy.

The same rhetorical questions Mathews asked Lamont, Mehlman offered in rhetoric to Mathews questions to him.

Chris Mathews is a dick. I really think we should gather together and have that asshole run off of MSNBC, or at least have him admit his Republican leanings.

21. I heard that, too ......
.... and it struck me a bit different than it apparantly struck you.

I took it to mean that Tweety, as a teevee talker could not choose sides (i.e.: not 'support' Lamont). Why he felt the need to make this clear when he gives any RWinger a blowjob whenever they come on is beyond me, however.

22. Tweety referred to Bush as the "warrior king," our Henry V
and Tweety is a Republican that always talks about his Democratic past. Tweety is really a Reaganite.

20. Something tells me that will not go down well with real Repubs in CT
With any luck, the CT Repubs will stay home rather than vote and give legitimacy to this stab-in-the-back by Mehlman.
