"Great news from Connecticut! DFA-List candidate Ned Lamont defeated Joe Lieberman in yesterday's Democratic primary. Ned's victory is a big step forward for my home state of Connecticut and progressives nationwide. We've put Washington on notice that the war in Iraq is going to be the deciding issue this fall, and in every election, until our troops come home.

Ned's victory was powered by support from thousands of DFA members around the country. We need to build on this energy and elect progressive Democrats in every state. $200,000 from DFA members like you between now and the election will make it happen. Can you contribute $15 a month to victory from now until Election Day?

Tuesday's win illustrates the extraordinary power that DFA's national progressive network can have.

-- We've trained over 6,213 activists in 24 states through the DFA Training Academy. This has created a nucleus of trained staffers and volunteers to fuel people-powered campaigns, like Ned Lamont's, across the country.
-- DFA members have organized over 10,000 local events in all fifty states, including dozens of volunteer events in Connecticut for Ned's campaign.
-- Over 650 candidates have asked for YOUR support and we're recruiting hundreds of new volunteers every day, connecting them to progressive candidates, and mobilizing them to win.

Thanks for everything you do.

Jim Dean
Chair

P.S. The first 200 people that contribute at least $15 a month will receive a free DFA Night School DVD with key tips about how to take back the media in your state.

1. More on Lamont's win from DFA's David Reiter.
http://www.blogforamerica.com/archives/008197.html

"Lamont's Win, A Victory for Democracy!
Dave Reiter is a member of DFA Miami-Dade.

Ned Lamont pulled off a tremendous primary victory on Tuesday night that proved to be a defining moment in our democracy. Overcoming an 18 year incumbent and senior democrat, Lamont showed that the voice of the people still matter. Over the past six years, his opponent made efforts to move our party to the right while undermining the constituents that put him into office three times. The Democratic primaries in Connecticut proved that democracy still works when we all get involved to have our voices heard.

Lamont's victory shows that Democrats that do not uphold our core values are not safe in their seats at any level of government. Lamont's opponent threw offensive jabs, made false accusations, and showed a true disconnection with the voters. Lamont rose above the vicious attacks, and stayed consistently on message. Lamont's ability to effectively deliver the message of what he stands for seemingly turned his opponent into a mad dog, that didn't know how to respond in any other way but to lash out at Lamont as well as his own constituents(http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13738744/). In the end the voters spoke with their vote, and ousted the senior Senator and DLC leader from the Democratic Party and its nomination.

Lamont's opponent lashed out at every Democrat that believes in the process of democracy. The primaries are designed to be an opportunity for constituents to choose the candidates that represent the voters and their respective party. His opponent lashed out at the process several times, claiming that he deserves to be reelected merely because he is the incumbent. The senior Senator repeatedly made blanket accusations toward voters that spoke out against him, and rather than courting them, claimed they should be excluded from the political process. The voters of Connecticut made their choice based on what they felt would more accurately represent them…Ned Lamont.

Now that Ned Lamont has won, his opponent removed himself from the Party to run as an Independent. Rather than graciously stepping aside and endorsing his Democratic colleague, he has decided to terrorize the Lamont campaign until the general election... his ego just can't fathom how a three term Senator, former VP nominee and Presidential hopeful could have lost. It is called democracy, and the people have spoken."
