HELP!!!! We're dyin' here
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 12:36 PM by corkhead
Not everything is coming up roses today.

In south central Michigan, "Moderate" Republican Joe Schwarz lost to a much worse alternative, Christofascist Tim Walberg. We are in what I think could be a competitive district, but it seems to have been written off by Democratic leadership. IMHO, Walberg is 180 degrees in the wrong direction. Sharon Renier easily won the nomination on the Democratic side, but is already perceived to be the "Washington Generals" candidate by the local press. We have between now and November to pick up what is now an open seat in Congress. I am calling out to all DUers to help me figure out a way to help make Sharon Renier's candidacy become viable and winnable. Here is a link to her website...

Here is her opponent...

Judge for your self.

HELP!!!!!!!

edit for spelling and to ad link to the christofascist.

1. Condolences !
Sounds like you need to go onto your Michigan site here under state forums, and rally a write in candidate to represent the Dem's. Talk to your Democratic chair and ask for advice to see if that can be done.

3. i'm from west michigan and...
Joe Schwarz is a good man. He was a fiscal conservative, and a social moderate. He was not a Bush shill, and we democrats should be sad that Schwarz will now be replaced with the devil incarnate.

because they can get a majority of repukes during a primary where 13% vote to vote for a christofascist, they deserve the winner take all "mandate" to shove their ridiculous agenda down the 87% of people who didn't vote for him.

shame on those who have time to vote for the next "American Idol" but are too lazy to pay attention to what is being done to them by repukes.

we are fucked.

edit for spelling again. Damn, I need to remember to check before I post.

6. There is enough time to make things happen.
Have you talked to her campaign or are you stranded out in the wilderness all alone?

4. You won't hear the media talk about this
it doesn't fit in with their "no place for moderates in the democratic party" theme. They will also ignore the fact that Chafee may lose the republican primary in RI.

7. Seems like the RW wackos of the GOP are running things. You need to
make Sharon Renier into the 'moderate' candidate to attract Republicans who might be fed up with Christofascists. What are her good points?

11. I heard on the radio that she is one of those...
"Organic Farmers" Oh my! It was in the context of her being unelectable. This was on the local NPR station.

I am only hearing about all that makes her unelectable.

14. I don't think Democratic leadership expected Schwarz to lose
and he would have been hard to beat in the general because he more closely represented his district's population. Walberg is off the scale to the right.

15. I understand, but now that that had changed, it might be worth
contacting him to see if he can help.

He has raised about $6 million for the 2006 campaign.

Sharon has always been a working mother, studying in the time available
from her working and family responsibilities.
She is the first person in her family to ever attend college,
and she paid for it entirely herself.
Her personal experience of working on a degree while also being a single mother,
give her a special insight into the needs of the newly unemployed in the district
and how difficult it is to balance a low paying job and family,
while also trying to attended classes and finish up homework assignments.

She has been active in the national and international conventions designed to
eliminate all forms ofdiscrimination against women (CEDAW) with the United Nations.
While working as a paralegal at the University of Michigan for Professor Catharine
A. MacKinnon, she was involved in the national and international struggle
for human rights and sex equality.

Maybe NOW should be contacted? League of Women Voter's?

DNC Chairman Dean on Yesterday's Strong Turnout in Democratic Primaries Across the Country

8/9/2006 10:44:00 AM

To: National Desk

Contact: Karen Finney or Stacie Paxton, 202-863-8148, both of Democratic National Committee

WASHINGTON, Aug. 9 /U.S. Newswire/ --

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement on yesterday's Democratic primaries around the country in which Democratic voters showed that they are energized for the November elections with record turnout:

"Across the country yesterday, strong turnout sent a powerful message. Democrats are energized as we head to the November elections.

Snip-->

"In Missouri, Claire McCaskill's strong primary victory once again proves that she is a strong opponent for President Bush's rubber stamp in the Senate, Jim Talent. Jim Marcinkowski is ready to send ethically-challenged Republican Mike Rogers home in the 8th Congressional District, and Sharon Renier showed decisively that she can win the 7th in Michigan. In Colorado, heavy turnout in the 7th Congressional District proved that Coloradoans are tired of Bob Beauprez's failed legacy and want a Congressman like Ed Perlmutter who will put their interests first. In another hard fought contest in Georgia, Hank Johnson, an accomplished litigator and community leader, emerged as the Democratic nominee for the 4th District and will make a terrific member of Congress. Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney ran a strong campaign following many years of dedicated service to the Democratic Party and the people of the State of Georgia.

"As we look towards November, the message is clear: Democrats offer a new direction for America. Voter turnout across the country yesterday was a testament to how Democrats will win in November by offering the American people real change, not taking a single vote for granted, and standing up for what we believe in."

12. They're both inexperienced. The thing is he's --
well, he's a "christofascist," a "religious nutcase", or an "ideologue."

I say this calls for Ms. Renier to work really hard to master the mechanics of politics and local issues and politicians.

MEANWHILE, she should get her staff working on opposition research. What does Walberg believe? Did he make any public statements during the Schiavo episode? Does he believe Middle East warfare is part of God's plan? Make it about him.

He'll try to make it about you (RADICAL FEMINIST McKinnon, eh?)

I'm originally from Michigan, Ms. Renier, and wishing you luck...

Incidentally, for DU colleagues, what's with the DNC writing off districts?

16. If walberg is truly a Christofascist
that means he more than likely :

has committed pedophilia OR

has cheated on his wife with a hooker OR

has trolled for homosexual sex OR

has slept with one of his stepdaughers/sons/mules OR

Fill in the blank with hypocritical behavior here________________________________
