Howard Dean endorses Ned Lamont for Senate
"In Connecticut, Democratic voters exercised their most fundamental right as Americans, choosing Ned Lamont as the Democratic nominee. We congratulate Mr. Lamont and look forward to working with him both to ensure his victory in November and as a United States Senator. Senator Joe Lieberman has served the people of Connecticut admirably for the last 18 years and always stood up for what he believed in. It was a hard fought campaign, and the Democratic voters of Connecticut have made their choice."

1. As Party Chair he had to wait to support someone publically...
But I'm sure personally he was hoping for Ned as Joe's the worst publicity for our party on just about every position we try to stand up to Bush on.

8. I call these 'Orwellian Luck' headlines.
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 05:01 PM by Mechatanketra
While fighting in the Spanish Civil War, future Animal Farm and 1984 author George Orwell was shot in the neck. He later wrote that people often said he'd been lucky to survive, whereas he had to think real luck would involve not getting shot at all.

That's the sentiment I get when reading the news sometimes. E.g. a poll says a slim majority of Americans would support impeaching Bush if he lied about his case for war, and people say 'America's waking up!' — but that really just means that a near-majority wouldn't want Bush out of office, even if his crimes were given. That's actually depressing, isn't it?

Same here. I'm not enthused about prominent Democrats coming out to 'support' Lamont — I'm disheartened that it's apparently up for grabs whether or not members of the "Democratic" party would back the candidate selected by the members of their party in that state (you know ... democratically). Essentially, every officed Democrat who feels the need to make it an actual decision whether or not to support Lamont is really disavowing any real faith in the primary system itself. Whether he intends to or not, Dean has moved here from telling the common voter "You have the power!" to "Aren't you cute? I guess we who have the power will humor you."

9. Shouldn't Joe have to give back some $?
If he has been given Democratic funds for his campaign, and he still has some left, shouldn't he be forced to return the funds as he is no longer supported by the party?
