Quotes From CT GOP Chairman on Beating Both Ned & Joe
Thanks, Joe!

http://www.nj.com/news/ledger/index.ssf?/base/news-8/1155103352127080.xml&coll=1

In a telephone interview last night, Gallo said Lieberman's intention to run as an independent in the fall could split the Democratic vote and allow a moderate Republican to take the seat.

"It's a golden opportunity," Gallo said. "Connecticut is like New Jersey. It likes and elects moderate Republicans. And Lamont looks like a typical limousine liberal."

To take advantage of Lieberman's loss, however, GOP and independent observers said the Republican establishment in Connecticut would have to find a heavyweight replacement for Alan Schlesinger, the kamikaze candidate chosen when it appeared Lieberman was a sure-shot for re-election.

Gallo said there are no immediate plans to dump Schlesinger. But a top GOP strategist in Washington, who asked not to be named, said the national party is working with Gallo to persuade Schlesinger to step aside. Similarly, Democrats are expected to bring pressure on Lieberman to abandon his independent candidacy lest he jeopardize the Democrat hold on Connecticut's seat.

1. Post primary Rasmussen poll: Schlesinger gets 13% of the vote
40% for Lamont and Lieberman.

Once Schlesinger's sordid past gets air time, he'll go down in flames.

4. Not necessarily
From everything I've read and heard many Repugs are planning on staying home in November.

In Connecticut Independents swing elections. And Independents voted for Lamont in large numbers.

5. Well then that's good news.
Maybe the cons are paleoconservatives? Or maybe they just really don't like Lieberman and have cursed him so many times they can't see voting for him.

7. Lieberman's voting record will keep many conservatives from voting for him
Despite his pratfalls within the Democrat party and his sucking up to Bush, Lieberman is still a left-leaning centerist.

And there's nothing conservatives hate more than someone who doesn't kowtow to their agenda.

2. Don't be so sure
Election of 1912 (Roosevelt vs Taft vs Wilson) had two great republicans going against each other and the democrat one simply because the votes were split. I actually wish that Roosevelt had one. He was a great president and it would've been the first time an outside party took the white house (something unseen to this day)
