3. it's the combination of Bush ass kissing and criticizing other Democrats

the fact that he seems to turn up to defend Bush and go after Dems just as we are starting to make progress. there are ones with much more conservative voting records like Ben Nelson but they don't go out defending Bush and attacking other Dems. usually only if they are asked they will give their position.

also Lieberman came from a liberal leaning state unlike some others.
