Burnt Orange (Texas blog) on Lieberman's Indy run
Sore Loserman Chooses to Become Next Carole Strayhorn

Tue Aug 08, 2006 at 21:06:21 PM MDT It's over.

U.S. Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman conceded defeat in the Democratic primary just after 11 p.m. in the bitter Connecticut primary.

But Lieberman pledged to continue his candidacy as an independent in the general election in November.

"Incidentally, we are gonna go," Lieberman told supporters at the Hartford Hilton hotel.
Challenger Ned Lamont defeated Lieberman by more than 10,000 votes, according to unofficial vote returns.
"The old politics of partisan polarization won today," Lieberman said. "For the sake of our state, our country and my party, I cannot and will not let that result stand."

Joe, this isn't Lamont's fault. This is a democracy where people can run in a primary and defeat incumbents. That's part of the deal.

If we are to complain about having a distracting election going into the fall, it's not because Lamont won, it's your fault for not accepting the results of a primary election like anyone else and believe that the world owes him a seat in the Senate. You rank right up there with Tom Delay in the "I own this seat and fuck everyone else" category.

Lamont has beaten the Democratic Party's 2000 Vice Presidential nominee. Lieberman had all the help in the world he could ask for or buy. For his loss, he has no one to blame but himself.

Joe, former Texas Republican Carole Strayhorn would like to officially welcome you, a fellow Party turncoat, into the Independent fold. You can give her a kiss as you join her in defeat this November.

And the email they sent out tonight:

Off the radar of Texas politics, 2000 Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Joe Lieberman lost tonight in a primary challenge by progressive Ned Lamont. The final unoffcial returns were as follows.

Lamont - 144,005 - 51.79%
Lieberman - 134,026 - 48.21%

Lieberman, having just lost a Senate seat he has held for nearly 2 decades has made pledges to run as an Independent this fall. Not only would such a bid damage Democrats' chances of retaining the seat, but they distract us all from the many opportunities we have in picking up Republican held districts across the country and in Texas.

What can you do to help?

Many Democrats, regardless of whom they supported in the CT primary, stated they would support the Democratic nominee, as is the normal thing to do in elections. In the next few days you can take action to save us all from a distracting Indepedent run.

1. Urge the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) to support Ned Lamont as he is the Democratic Senate nominee. (202) 224-2447

2. Call your Texas Democratic Congresspersons and ask they support Ned Lamont as the nominee. Directory here.

3. Urge Senate Minority leader Harry Reid to strip Lieberman of all committee assignments. (202) 224-3542

......................................

I wonder if Joe...who seems to care only about himself...could be shamed into dropping his Independent run? What a selfish idiot!

1. Shamed, threatened, bribed, I don't care. Stop him.
Or pack up his office and put him in the boiler room for the duration.

2. Also, demand that Lieberman lose his ranking committee seats
He announced he is now an Independent...er, rather, a Lieberman Party candidate. He officially declared on national TV that he is no longer running as a Democrat and therefore has resigned from the Democratic Party.

4. Yep...
In the third point they give Harry Reid's phone number to call and urge him to do this....Should be no-brainer, if you ask me. As you said, he's resigned from this party...
