Celebrate now...but do not underestimate Joe Lieberman...
He did not lose by all that much...and consider these numbers...

In 2000 Lieberman was reelected by a 65-35 margin

Lamont won tonight with approximetely 10% of the total number of voters who cast ballots in 2000.

There are about 1 million voters that did not cast ballots this evening...that is alot of people that still need convincing.

Given the complete irrelevence of the Republican candidate, Lieberman is gonna get a good chunk of those that voted Republican last time.

There is alot of work ahead, and despite the ineptness of his primary campaign, Lieberman is a political pro and should not be taken lightly...

5. Joe Who?
You don't mean that warmongering sore loser that prefers to get kissed by Bush than he does about all the GIs killed in Iraq on account of Bush's lies, or do you?

8. I am a Democrat...
And am supporting the Democratic candidate...

It is almost inevitable that folks flush with victory the first time stop too long to celebrate, and find themselves caught flat-footed later on...

I am saying do not underestimate Joe Lieberman or we risk losing a Democratic seat.

6. Well-said.
The fact that you are reminding people not to relax shows you support Lamont, and I respect you more for that. :)

7. Won't it be a three-way race in Nov? Lieberman will split the conservative
vote - seems good for Ned.

10. Well he will get Republican votes...
That Democrats did not get before...

If he runs an effective campaign, which he started to do in the last week, he may be able to hold onto a good portion of those that voted for him this evening...

Plus consider there are 600,000 folks who voted Democratic in the last election that did not vote in the primary tonight...

It is not over...so don't get complacent!

12. I'm not complacent, and I agree that Ned can't rest on his win tonight,
but the conservative vote will necessesarily be split between the Repub and Lieberman. That would seem to be in Lamont's favor.

9. Joe the Joke?
The poor fool thinks that the independents and republicans in CT support Bush anymore then the Democrats do. He is in for a surprise.

11. Lieberman proves he can't handle the truth about his candidacy
Edited on Tue Aug-08-06 11:03 PM by zulchzulu
He is a loser, man.

If he runs as an Independent, he will run an UGLY, vindictive campaign. He will look desperate. His strength as a Democrat with power in various seats is now irrelevant if he runs as an Independent. He'll get 10% of the vote in the fall.

Lieberman has proven he is only in it for himself. If he respected Democrats and the party, he would have graciously stepped aside. This appears to be too much for Lieberman.

have a vision of a better world.

Thanks for the reality check. Onward!

15. How true, how true.
The really offensive factor (to me) hidden in the rhetoric, little noticed at this point, is the amount of $$$ out of democratic pockets, in support of NoMoJo over the years, and now the additional dollars out of democratic pockets to fight against him.

I'd like to think of the outrage when a few pundits put together the amount of funds that could be used to defend against the winger sex fiend attacks must be wasted battling a sleeper cell. Some anger should be in order.

16. I wonder how the dems that voted for LIEberman feel about him...
Edited on Tue Aug-08-06 11:13 PM by Pepper32
switching teams in the middle of the game?

This will be the determining factor, IMO

Hmm, something tells me we don't have that much to worry about, unless none of them are loyal to the Democratic party.

Knowing this was his intention...I would say many have already factored it in.

20. Well not having talked to them all...
However, primary voters tend to be better informed, and Lieberman made his intention clear more than a month ago, so I am betting the vast majority were well aware that he intended on doing this.

24. It is a far far different matter
to support a man considering a hypothetical treason, than it is to vote for the fool once he's committed it.

18. It now seems likely that
Connecticut will have an Independent Senator instead of a Democratic Senator. I liked and voted for Gore/Lieberman (Lieberman as much as Gore) in 2000, I opposed and oppose his pro-invasion/occupation stance on Iraq and am (emotionally) pleased he was 'punished'. Still, after he is reelected--as an Independent-- are the Democrats really better off?
