Yes, over the years his voting record has been with the good guys when it came to workers' rights, unions, the environment and such, but he's sucked up to big business--especially in the wake of Enron--and he's a pantywaist fundamentalist bent on cramming his tight-assed views of propriety down everyone's throat in the name of the big god-thing.
Worse than anything was the opportunism with which he assailed Clinton at a time when the party truly needed solidarity, and to Gore's discredit, this landed him a seat on the ticket.
He's a sanctimonious prick, even if his social policies are decent. Beyond all that, he's so blinded by his love of Israel that he'd do anything for them. This is what spawns his hatred of Arabs and allows him to go along with anything that does them ill.
More than anything, his prissy grandstanding against Clinton showed him for what he truly is: a nasty little goody-two-shoes snit more in love with himself than the party that helped him to power. Much as Carter excoriated Zell Miller for turning on those who'd sustained him, the Democratic Party is best off to be rid of this little weasel.
Once again, I'll grant that his voting record on core Democratic issues is quite liberal and decent, but when it comes to the insane blank check for Israel, the hugs and kisses for destroying the separation of church and state, the self-granted right to crush the first amendment in the name of morality and his opportunistic trashing of Clinton at a moment of extreme peril show him to be a man of pathetic character.
Go away, Joe. Go far away and write a snotty little book.
