Drug tests for those on unemployment!! Watch Congress
Congress.org Weekly Update
August 7, 2006

DRUG TESTS FOR THOSE ON UNEMPLOYMENT OR WELFARE
While Congress is in recess, we will focus on the issues YOU want to see Congress address. This week's proposal is from Tijera, NM

"Too many of our tax dollars are spent on people sitting at home doing drugs. I think everyone receiving welfare, unemployment or any kind of Government assistance should be submitted to random drug tests. If they do not pass the drug test the Government assistance, welfare or unemployment they are receiving should stop."

Support - Random Drug Tests for those on Unemployment or Welfare

Oppose - Random Drug Tests for those on Unemployment or Welfare

VIRTUAL DEBATE:
ELIMINATE TAXES, REPLACE WITH SALES TAX

Do you agree with this Virtual Soapbox from an activist in Kentucky to eliminate all taxes and replace them with a "Fair Tax" (a national sales tax)? (View by clicking the triangle start button.)

1. Meanwhile in America, my last 2 CEOs left w/ 50-100Mill apiece for poor
stewardship of my company.

2. Let's further humiliate these people by foircing them to pee in a cup.
Great idea. What moronic tripe, but nothing less than one would expect here in the land of personal freedom.

3. Good Christ! What will they think of next to humiliate people with, to
take away their dignity, to disempower them, to turn them into Eloi who respond to bells and horns that trigger programmed responses? Ring-ring: Pee here! Bleep-bleep: Take a finger up the vagina to "check for drugs." Honk-honk: Shoot that civilian.

I heard a little snippet on BBC news the other day with some Eurocrat talking about how employers should be able to fire employees who smoke on their own turf (not at work), because nicotine is highly addicting, and during their stints at work they MIGHT be DISTRACTED by their craving.

I couldn't believe it! What if they're sex addicted and crave sex? What if they're dry drunks, and crave alcohol, and have kicked it, but are living "one day at a time"? What the hell are these fascists DOING, getting into peoples' bodies and psyches this way? And where is compassion and reasonableness? Who ISN'T without some kind of addiction or craving? Who ISN'T without some kind of health problem? We're going for the Master Race here--is that it? The perfectly obedient, perfectly pure, perfectly blond 'sieg heilers' to the Fatherland?

We're going to kick the poor when they're down? We're going to fire people, deny them unemployment benefits that THEY have paid into, or deny welfare to desperate people and their dependents, because they aren't pure enough? Because they took a hit of marijuana?

This is so disgusting--and so dangerous! It is literally a step away from the concentration camps, and we MUST STOP THIS.

Legalize all drugs now! Empty the prisons of non-violent offenders now! Spend that money on HELPING PEOPLE! Dismantle the prison-industrial complex, and the military-industrial complex, and START OVER.

Down with fascism!

5. More fun for the ACLU? Afraid of paper cuts opening checks when high?
You have to have a reason for doing drug screens. You either have to have a suspicion that the person was high from their behavior (like a job accident) or some kind of job where being high would lead to hazardous bahavior. The only thing the unemployed do is open checks, so I cant see a court upholding random drugs screens on people on unemployment since their being high would not put the public at risk and they can still look for jobs when high.

6. OK, Right After We Drug Test Members of Congress EVERY DAY!!
Take a guess how many Representatives and Senators would be in favor of that policy?

Almost as popular with members of Congress, as requiring them to make an accurate, timely and full financial disclosure of their holdings and additions each month.
