Hotline: Lieberman prepared to file 20,000; expect call from Bill Clinton
August 08, 2006

SuperTuesday

Hartford Courant columnist/ex-GOP state legislator Kevin F. Rennie will be contributing exclusive dispatches from Connecticut throughout the evening.

Democratic primary voter turnout was varying between 20%-25% by 1pm in communities around Connecticut. Towns with a direct interest in the primaries, with ties one of the candidates or an ethnic affinity, were at the upper end. Local election officials expect a final burst of voters to appear between 4:30 and 6 p.m. Most of Connecticut’s 169 municipalities will not, at the current rate, reach a turnout of more than 35%.

Lieberman is prepared to file nearly 20,000 signatures tomorrow to secure an independent place on the ballot in November. He understands that many familiar Democrats will abandon him if he loses tonight, no matter what the margin. A call from Bill Clinton is likely and will not succeed in chasing Lieberman from the race.

The three term Democrat will likely run a more aggressive campaign in the fall. While campaign realists expect Lieberman will fall short tonight, they believe he gained ground by taking the fight to Lamont, particularly over his recent shedding of a 16 year membership in an exclusive Greenwich country club in preparation for donning the costume of a populist.

4. ahh, note the source, and how much it conflicts with the CT SecState's...
...prediction of 50-55 percent turnout. Methinks this is an attempt to downplay the significance of a Lieberman loss.

9. Who is reporting 50-55% turnout?
That would be an amazing number for a primary.

6. If you thought Democrats in CT were angry at Joe now. . .
that will be NOTHING compared to what happens if Joe goes ahead with this stunt and insists on staying in the race as an "Independent".

All I can say is: Better run for cover!! And duck!!

Their anger at Joe and the Repukes will be absolutely terrifying.

JOE GOTTA GO.

Crush him like a bug.

:nuke:

8. If LIEberman loses, I expect the GOP to give him their line
I fully expect LIEberman to jump to the GOP if he loses. He may even do that if he squeaks out a win.

11. I just called Boxer's office and gave them the link
In her letter to me she stated that supporting the winner of the election was paramount in her coming there no matter who won.
The office said she would call Joe's office.
