From the Post Gasette article:

"Everyone knows Al Gore stars in the global warming documentary "An Inconvenient Truth." But who created "Al Gore's Penguin Army," a two-minute video now playing on YouTube.com?

In the video, Mr. Gore appears as a sinister figure who brainwashes penguins and bores movie audiences by blaming the Mideast crisis and starlet Lindsay Lohan's shrinking waist size on global warming. Like other videos on the popular YouTube site, it has a home-made, humorous quality. The video's maker is listed as "Toutsmith," a 29-year-old who identifies himself as being from Beverly Hills in an Internet profile.

In an email exchange with The Wall Street Journal, Toutsmith didn't answer when asked who he was or why he made the video, which has just over 59,000 views on YouTube. However, computer routing information contained in an email sent from Toutsmith's Yahoo account indicate it didn't come from an amateur working out of his basement.

Instead, the email originated from a computer registered to DCI Group, a Washington, D.C., public relations and lobbying firm whose clients include oil company Exxon Mobil Corp.

A DCI Group spokesman declines to say whether or not DCI made the anti-Gore penguin video, or to explain why Toutsmith appeared to be sending email from DCI's computers. "DCI Group does not disclose the names of its clients, nor do we discuss the work that we do on our clients' behalf," says Matt Triaca, who heads DCI's media relations shop.
"

thanks to Bloom and Skids for bringing this to our attention!

2. I pointed this out to a hard-core Kool Aid drinker
and he responded with this:

yeah everyone that doubts the pseudo-science of global warming is bought off by big oil.

jeeeesh.

and did not get the irony - not only that I did not say "everyone" (although a vast majority are) since I was being specific about this, but also some ironic info about Stossel from Wikipedia.org:

John Stossel has also been criticized for presenting a critical view of the scientific opinion on climate change (i.e., global warming)<17><18>.In June of 2001, for example, Stossel aired a special one-hour segment titled "Tampering with Nature." In this report, he referred to a well-publicized letter from the Union of Concerned Scientists which warned of the "devastating consequences" of global warming: "You may have heard that 1,600 scientists signed a letter warning of 'devastating consequences.' But I bet you hadn't heard that 17,000 scientists signed a petition saying that there's 'no convincing evidence' that greenhouse gases will disrupt the Earth's climate.<19>. What Stossel fails to mention is that signatories for the first letter he describes included 110 Nobel Prize winners and 60 U.S. National Medal of Science winners. The latter petition was the product of the George C. Marshall Institute, which is affiliated with a number of corporate-funded, conservative organizations known for global warming skepticism <20><21><22>. Signatories for the Marshall Institute's petition included ophthalmologists, dentists, nutritionists, and other falsifications which were encouraged by detractors to the study.<23><24>. Of the final 19,700 signatures, 17,800 were independently verified. This included 2,660 physicists, geophysicists, climatologists, meteorologists, oceanographers, and environmental scientists. It also included 5,017 scientists whose fields of specialization in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, and other life sciences <25>

3. Those guys look an awfully lot like the linux mascot "Tux"...
If the similarity, either intentional on non-, is too great, can they be forced to take down the video from Youtube (and elsewhere)?

The creator of Tux, Larry Ewing, supposedly has said that you are allowed to copy or modify Tux, as long as he gets an acknowledgment... A bit of history about Tux is here...

This is probably not necessarily a good idea, though... but in any event, the choice isn't up to me.
