August 8th, another proud day in republican party history
32 years ago today, richard nixon resigned as president in disgrace over the actions of he and his kind surrounding the Watergate Scandal. In a strange twist the current president's action far surpass those of nixon in treachery and crime and yet that guy has no plans to do the honorable thing and resign. "Conservatives" nationwide sing his praises and proudly write letters to the editor exalting his actions.

1. It's pretty sad that NIXON had more integrity than Bush
Bush should be thrown out of office in disgrace :grr:

8. Maybe this is all just an evil Nixonian plot to improve his reputation.

5. Salute!
He still had the best (& most honest) campaign slogan of all time! My Mother told me about it.

"Why change dicks in the middle of a screw? Re-elect Nixon in seventy two!"

6. I remember the resignation like it was yesterday.
I was with my maternal grandparents, parents, aunt and uncle, siblings and cousins at my grandparents home in Gulf Shores, AL. We all sat in front of the TV set in absolute silence. It was shocking and a relief all at the same time. My very outspoken Republican dad and uncle had nothing to say. My granfather had always voted Democratic but he voted for Nixon. He told me that "Tricky Dick had fooled him" and that he'd never be fooled like that again.

Bush has no honor. He'll never resign.

9. Me too.
I was with my SO and his sister. The local radio station DJ played "The Witch Is Dead". People were honking their horns. Quite a day.

7. memories

Saturday night massacre--Barbara Jordan--Goldwater's trip to deliver the death message--much more. That house of cards collapsed inward after a long, unreal summer. I don't think this one will, because there has been so little sign of integrity from any direction and even the little signs are "swiftboated". Sad, sad times.

12. He announced it on the 8th, but actually resigned at noon the next day.
So we can stretch our celebrations over two days!
