http://rapidcityjournal.com/articles/2006/08/06/news/columns/249woster.txtThere are lots of interesting elements in the story that is edited to the requisite four paragraphs below. There is a Republican campaign manager getting caught in lying and then saying it was a joke, then he says that the candidate had nothing to do with it, and then he reiterates that it was a joke, and then there is the pol that is reported with the story. It seems that in this "red" state the Democratic incumbent is leading by 34 points in an early poll. I just hope other Dems are doing as well else where, and that the Republican campaign managers there get caught with their dirty tricks and lying too.
Only problem in editing this here is that it is four out of twenty-four paragraphs, so most of the information inevitably got cut. . . .
Woster: Whalen camp draws fire for farce
By Kevin Woster
. . .
As campaign manager for U.S. House candidate Bruce Whalen, Herseth's Republican opponent, it's Breard's job to make his candidate look good and Herseth look - well, not so good. That's the way the game is played.
But Herseth fans say Breard violated even the nebulous rules of political engagement by e-mailing the Wikipedia farce to a number of political Web logs, or blogs, including the Journal's own Mount Blogmore. Reporter and Blogmore creator Bill Harlan received Breard's e-mail, which noted the Wikipedia piece, saying that Herseth was "engaged to her chief of staff, pregnant and pro-life."
. . .
"I think we can look for more of this kind of garbage in the future," Levsen said. "Maybe it's not just a coincidence that it comes right after the release of a poll that shows Whalen down by 34 points."
A scientific poll released by the Argus Leader and KELO-TV in Sioux Falls showed Herseth with 60 percent of registered voters, and Whalen got 26 percent with 14 percent undecided.
