Republicans' Best Hope? Stop Imitating Democrats:

snip-

Why might core Republican voters be dispirited? The answer is obvious. Republicans promised voters a lean and efficient government, and they delivered the opposite. The size of the government has increased more since Bush took office than it did during Lyndon Johnson's Great Society. This Republican government has been among the most liberal with taxpayers' dollars of any in history.

Part of the story is the war on terror, but there is much more to it. Republicans have governed as if they could maintain a permanent majority by merely giving voters all the big-spending liberal programs that Democrats have always promised, like prescription drugs. They have out-liberaled the liberals.

New Heights

Republicans took the strategy to new heights last week, when they made a sharp increase in the minimum wage a centerpiece of legislation that also would have reduced the death tax. The minimum wage has been the bane of Republicans for as long as I can remember, because it strikes them at their ideological core.

Republicans used to understand that the government should let free markets work and intervene as little as possible. Now, their core election strategy is to abandon principle and be as socialist as possible.

The predictable result: Democratic voters have given them no credit for the conversion, probably because they are so upset about Iraq, and Republicans have decided to stay home, since no party seems to speak to them anymore.

2. Awwww, poor Repuglicans, no one speaks for them anymore

except Ann Coulter. Yes, that's right, the right-wing evil empire is waaaaay too liberal. That's why they're losing, they're not conservative enough. Hoo-boy. People that believe this also believe that Santorum and Hoekstra went to Iraq and single-handedly dug up all of those nasty WMDs that the UN inspectors were trying so hard NOT to find. (according to Limbaugh)

3. again: do they not get it or are they pretending to be stupid?
The author completely ignores the verifiable statistics about big government, spending, and who is in charge. They point to all of the typical ills of conservatism and call it Liberal - that way they can condemn Bush without admitting any basic faults in their ideology. Sick.

You'd think if conservatism were so perfect and popular that they would not feel the need to suppress registration, voting, and people speaking their minds. The RW's own actions belie the stink of their BS.

4. Oh, figures. It's written by some jackass named Kevin Hassett,
from - SURPRISE! The dreaded, detestable, damnable American Enterprise Institute - the vermin pit and hatchery of the PNAC. Figures! The best thing that could happen to this country, in addition to seeing republi-CONS summarily voted OUT in DROVES, and IMPEACHMENT to be pursued full-speed-ahead, wold be for this particular den from Hell to be put squarely OUT OF BUSINESS.

Frankly, I think we've heard a bellyful from these people, and that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. They've HAD their day. They've HAD their way. And frankly, I've HAD it with THEM!!! We've all bowed to it, either agreeably or reluctantly, or (most likely) forcibly - against our will, and look what it's done for us. Look where we are! Look at the shape our country is in - and what shape the whole frickin' WORLD is in by now. Is there anyone, truly, in his or her stable mind (outside of the genuinely hopeless like the limbots, coultergeists, and Pox "news" people), who can say ANY of it is working - for the benefit of ANYONE except for a very stingey, closed, selfish, greedy, sneaky-ass, elite few? As so many DUers here like to say - "how's that workin' out for ya?" We all know the answer. The proof is in the pudding, and we've been force-fed enough of this pudding to puke - and still remain on the critical list!

5. How clever, the right just isn't right enough anymore, apparently
So they'll move a bit more. The left moves a bit more to the center and teh right moves farther right, so the center moves. It's a slow process, but they've been doing a great job. People fall for this crap all day. Only, their version of "socialist" is having a harem of corporate whores to pay for.
