Will you help us turn Texas a little bit blue?
DUer David Van Os is running for Texas Attorney General against one of the most corporate-PAC-corrupted, religious-fundamentalist-pandering, Tom DeLay-toadying Republicans in this too-red state.

David speaking at a recent Courthouse Tour stop.

David is taking on the oil companies, in their back yards -- yes, that's Dallas in the background behind that billboard -- over high gasoline prices. Did you know that the Texas Constitution specifically gives the Attorney General the responsibility of investigating corporations to prevent them from abusing the public trust? Look it up -- Article 4 Section 22.

David has filed suit against the state of Texas, together with DUer sonias, to outlaw voting machines (he doesn't just want a voter-verified paper audit trail; he wants a good-old fashioned paper ballot).

David just last week received the endorsement of the Houston GLBT Caucus for his public stands supporting the rights of ALL people to marry and adopt children in Texas.

David Van Os is halfway to a fundraising goal of $30,000 by August 15. Show him some DU love, please, by contributing $18.36 -- get it? the year Texas won independence -- through this link.

Thank you, DU!:patriot:

so we can keep track of donations from DU as well as send you a thank you note. :) Please help us take our state back! A victory for David would send a very big message, not only to the Republicans, but those in the party who don't take the grassroots activists seriously! Thank you!

2. We need someone like David to bring Justice back to our Great State
The repubs have caused our state to be scorned by the rest of the US and probably the world as well.

David is just the right person to do the job that our current AG is neglecting, because Abbott is a BIG part of the problem. Greg Abbott's only concern is how much money he can rake in from the corporate interest. Therefore he doesn't have a vested interest in exposing their greed and corruption.

With David on our side he doesn't owe any of these bastards any special favors. He will take the fight right to their doorsteps and ensure that the citizens of Texas gets the justice we deserve.

I'll try to send a check out today. That would be money well spent. But hell I'll round it off to $20. I can't afford a whole lot since I've been unemployed for the last few years, but I know he could use some support because the Democratic Party isn't doing us any favors in that department.

Thanks for all you do PDittie and David.:applause:

By the way when is David scheduled for the D/FW area? would love for him to head this way, I haven't seen anything scheduled the last time I checked....

I hope I made sense, since it is time for me to get some sleep.

Oh yeah K&R

5. I can't say enough good things about David
I knew him before he ran back in 2004. I knew him WAY before he became a DUer. And he's a fabulous person. He's the single most on fire human being I have ever met in my life. If you're having a day where you're down and don't think it's worth fighting any more...all you gotta do is find video of David talking and it will light a fire under your butt. :)

Getting him elected Attorney General may actually be the most important state-wide race in Texas this year. There's a lot of damage he could undo from that position. Not to mention it would return us to the days when Texas politics was the best free entertainment going. Can you just imagine the pissing and moaning from the corporate elites in Texas when David starts coming after them.

13. K&R For DAVID!!!
Edited on Mon Aug-07-06 10:18 AM by Melissa G
David is the Real Deal! The Last Decent Attorney General we had in Texas was Jim Mattox. David is a very worthy successor as Mattox himself said at the Democratic state convention when he introduced him.
We need a people's lawyer who will fight for the good people of this state and defend us from those who are taking advantage. Big Oil is high on the list. David has already given them notice!

Give David Van Os your volunteer time. Send him what funds you can. BUT Above All, VOTE for him and convince your FRIENDS to VOTE for him! Commit to get some people who don't regularly vote to turn out and get David elected. David is touring the entire state! Take your friends to see him! That will convince them!

30. David said something very powerful to me yesterday
He basically said that the Democratic Party's biggest weakness is its implicit assumption that we target only those people who we think will vote for us, whether statistically, or by profile, or location. And thus every one else is insulted and angry that we are basically writing them off. He said the most important thing that a Precinct Chair can do is get five people who have been turned off and not voted and get them to the polls. It would turn everything around.

As a precinct chair, I agree, and think that writing people off is signature repug activity, and we should not be using their tactics and thus becoming them.

For all those who have not had the pleasure, I urge you to catch Van Os in person or at one of his campaign stops (he is going to every county courthouse in Texas). He is an inspiration, like few others running today.

You know that counties usually organize rides to the polls. Do you live in a county where the Democratic party is organized? If not there's always early voting. You sometimes can vote at local grocery stores two weeks before the election and kill two birds with one stone - shop and vote.

Please, please find you a ride to the polls and vote this November.

38. Thank you, everybody!
I wish I had the time to respond personally to every single commentor. You are an inspiring bunch. My deepest thanks to each of you. Especially thanks to Pdiddie for the outstanding presentation that started this thread.

I was born in Texas, I've lived in Texas all my life, and I have no desire to ever live anywhere else. My state is a great state and I love it, and my state does not belong to Karl Rove or the Imperial Bush Family.

Texas' people are a great people. The great majority of them are compassionate, kind, generous, and hospitable. Many of them have been conned and hoodwinked for a quarter of a century into giving their political support and loyalty to the evil Imperial Bush Family. These people are not my enemies. They are victims of a quarter century of lies and manipulation. The time is ripe for them to wake up and realize that the people whom they have been voting for because they were conned into thinking those people were of good moral character are in fact gangsters and liars. Many of them are waking up now and realizing it. These recovering former Republicans, independents, and the already-awakened Democratic voters are forming up right now into a formidable new populist coalition that is about to kick the gangster power-grabbers out of office and replace them with public servants who will then knock the hell out of the corporate robber barons who've been preying on the people for way too long.

Look out Big Oil and the Insurance Monopolists, I'm coming after you hard on behalf of the people of Texas. Spend as many billions of dollars as you want to try to beat me; I don't care, the people are about to win this year. It's been a long drought, but a mighty sweet rain is coming.

David Van Os

But TEXAS is too damn big (it takes 3 days to cross), full of cows and barbed wire everywhere, and Russian tumbleweeds.

Big money in Dallas, but a lot of ignorance, and they have immigration problems and racism issues, and a lot of cynical people.

Even a liberal politician o'er dar has to be a bit cynical to survive.

What better way to change the direction of this country than to fight in the trenches. Yes Texas is big and we've got our problems, but we also have people like David willing to fight with us. We also have a lot of good people. Please don't judge us by a few rotten republicans who have been miserable corrput failures.

Remember Molly Ivins and Jim Hightower are Texans. Cindy Sheehan is now an honorary Texan by way of her buying land in Crawford.

Liberal politicians do survive and thrive. My newly restored Congressman Lloyd Doggett is much loved and very liberal.

There's no polling yet; I have asked John Zogby several times to add a question to his poll, so we'll see.

David got 42% in his 2004 Supreme Court race, more than any Democrat on the ballot except judicial candidate J.R. Molina. (John Kerry only got 38%.) Just on 'Bush Fatigue' alone, David is pulling about 45-47% against the prostitute Abbott, and all we have to do is close the deal with that last 5% in the next 90 days.

But of course, we need all the help we can get.:pals:

62. I love you SPCAworks
You have exactly the right sentiment. So many people want to write off Texas and it's just not fair. We know we're a purple state and the blueness will be opon us one day soon.

64. David Van Os Rocks!!!
so does Hank Gilbert who is touring with him! I pray for them both everyday!

They both can go a long way in restoring the great state of Texas to her people. They can help undo some of the damage wrought by those corporate robber barons who have bought and paid for the current crop of weasels who are at the moment screwing up things BIG TIME down at the capitol.

Kickin' for DAVID VAN OS and Hank Gilbert! Kickin' for them winning and kickin' some of the hind ends of those robber baron jerks right outa Austin!!!:kick:
