Half of Americans still believe Iraq had WMDs (new poll)

Half of Americans still believe Iraq had WMDs before invasion

By CHARLES J. HANLEY
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Do you believe in Iraqi WMD?

Did Saddam Hussein's government have weapons of mass destruction in 2003?

Half of Americans apparently still think so, a new poll finds, and experts see a raft of reasons why: a drumbeat of voices from talk radio to die-hard bloggers to the Oval Office, a surprise headline here or there, a rallying around a partisan flag, and a growing need for people, in their own minds, to justify the war in Iraq.

People tend to become "independent of reality" in these circumstances, says opinion analyst Steven Kull.

1. They are too stupid to figure the question wouldn't be asked if there were
Hmm. The obvious answer would be yes, but then, they wouldn't be asking unless it was no, so, I'll go with no.

2. It's not crazy
I was playing some online card games and started talking to this one person in the Navy who claimed not only were there still WMD but she had special clearance that allowed her to read the details about them.

I was kinda shocked, she said she had just enlisted last year out of high school so it was a bit shocking a low level grunt was given that access. Fortunately the others in the group felt it was pretty much a load of crock.

But the thing is - they do exist out there

4. And I would have almost considered that but
she talked about details of Virginia Beach that was familiar to me (my dad was stationed there).

Personally, I just think it's military protocol to indocterinate these kids enlisting into believing that there are weapons. Make them feel they have some sort of special clearance and then they go home on break and brag to their friends & families about this so-called special information they have.
