Senate Millionaires Against Raising The Minimum Wage

KEY QUOTE: “Today, in this fragile economy recovering from the recession, to raise the minimum wage would not create jobs but destroy jobs and increase the prices of goods and purchasing power of the people who you’d like to be helping, the disadvantaged.”

KEY QUOTE: Bush said in a 2004 presidential debate, “Actually, Mitch McConnell had a minimum wage plan that I supported that would have increased the minimum wage.” However, according to McConnell’s press secretary, the senator has not released any of the details his plan. McConnell voted against increasing the minimum wage in March 2005 and June 2006.

KEY QUOTE: “Less than five percent of the people making minimum wage are completely relying on that income as their major source of income.”

KEY QUOTE: “If you start losing jobs because you raise minimum wage too quickly, too fast that small employers can’t afford it, that’s going to have an effect on peoples’ opportunity to work.”

KEY QUOTE: “Robert Reich, once observed ‘most minimum wage workers aren’t poor.’ He is right.”

KEY QUOTE: “I don’t think there’s any such thing as a good minimum wage.”

KEY QUOTE: “It’s important to raise the minimum wage across the country. Working families are facing increases in home heating costs and high gas prices, and their wages should reflect these circumstances.” However, in March 2005 and June 2006, Smith voted against increasing the minimum wage.

1. Of course, it's our fault.
We have to stop using the language of class warfare.

3. I've always wondered why we can't provoke deflation to restore...
the buying power of minimum wage or at least maintain it. Is it because of fractional reserve banking?

4. “I don’t think there’s any such thing as a good minimum wage.”
I'd actually agree with that, although not for the reasons I suspect he would.

Revolution #55, July 30, 2006

Capitalism-Imperialism and Child Labor
Capitalism-imperialism is driven by relentless lust for profit. Capitalism is driven to exploit workers, enslave whole nations, and to compete with other capital to do all this even more viciously in a game of survival of the most ruthless. This drive for profit has created 250 million child laborers in the world. Those 250 million humans, whose childhoods are stolen and who are chained to machines, working in the fields, or forced into the sex trade, are—alone—enough to indict capitalism-imperialism as worthless, a failure, and a horror. And reason enough for socialist revolution that will end child labor, as part of overthrowing the rule of capital.

Yeah, that's because they easily qualify for varying degrees of public assistance.

8. My first thought as well. Sadly though with the RepubliCONs cut backs to
PA there's less of that to be spread around to an increasing amount of people in dire need.

9. I'm a country boy. Who the hell are these people?
How about some names to go with those mysterious faces and quotes? I'm sorry that I have a hard job and a real life, but I don't have time to go to the post office to check mug shots.

And I have another question, on the eve of the vote-stolen win of Joe Lieberman. Are any of them Democrats? Are there any Democrats on that list, and are there any Democrats with similar stupid quotes about poor people? I'm sure there are...and it's time to point them out.
