The hatred of the left
Edited on Sun Aug-06-06 08:08 PM by MN Against Bush
I am always hearing that the left in America is filled with hatred. It is a charge that is constantly being leveled at us by the right-wing, and unfortunately there are even a few on DU that have bought into these charges. If we are to take the charges of the right seriously then it must follow that...

It is hatred to call for peace.

It is not hatred to call for a continuation of a war that has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths, and hundreds of thousands more people being seriously wounded.

It is hatred to call for the right of all adults to marry.

It is not hatred to say that people who happen to be of the GLBT community can not possibly carry on a loving relationship.

It is hatred to call civilians killed in war innocent human beings.

It is not hatred to dismiss them as collateral damage.

It is hatred to say that we should care for the poor.

It is not hatred to make broad statements that the poor are lazy people who sit around and cheat the taxpayers.

It is hatred to call for a higher minimum wage.

It is not hatred to support a system that keeps families in poverty and results in massive numbers of homeless children across the country.

It is hatred to call for health care for all.

It is not hatred to watch people suffer with illness because they do not have health insurance.

It is hatred for Michael Moore to make a film calling for an end to violence.

It is not hatred for Ann Coulter to say that the 9/11 widows were harpies who were glad their husbands were killed.

It is hatred to call for greater attention to human rights.

It is not hatred to support torture.

It is hatred to call for a seperation of church and state.

It is not hatred to call for a war on Islam.

It is hatred to call for federal funding for embryonic stem cell.

It is not hatred to throw the stem cells which could provide hope for millions who are dying of serious illnesses into the dumpster, while simutaneously accusing the people who are dying from these illnesses of wanting to kill babies.

I don't want to hear about my supposed hatred from the Republicans ever again.

1. You are right it is hatred. We are called to HATE EVIL!!! And I do.
The leaders of this nation, the current leaders of Israel, and their lap dogs the Aussies and Brits (their leaders, not the people) are the epitome of evil to me.

2. I am saying it is not hatred though
I am saying the left is compassionate and has a conscious.

We will fight evil, but fighting evil is not a form of hatred.

3. I agree with you, but there are some on the left who are
just as intolerant as some of those on the right.

4. I am not saying there aren't any intolerant people on the left...
There most certainly are, just as there are hateful people in all walks of life.

The difference however is that leftist ideology in itself is not an ideology of hate, where much of the right wing ideology is based on a core idea of hatred.

14. I hold these people DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE
for the scuttling of the job market, especially the telephony sector where I had a fabulous job until 2001.
Suddenly everyone I knew was unemployed. And the only work available was ill paid service sector garbage.
Naturally it was not possible to keep my car and house on 1/3 of my former income.
I don't intend to reward that with tea and cookies.
I intend to see the Republican Party not only defeated but actually eliminated.
Of course my main worry is that they'll self destruct before I can get at them.

19. I hear you, Cobalt-60.
I used to have a decent life too, before GW Hoover killed this country's economy. I'm living w/relatives to survive, a friend is close to homelessness b/c she can't find a job, & another friend is 1 paycheck away from homelessness b/c his job doesn't pay jack s***.

28. Stories like yours
and your friends only serve to point out how destructive this administration has been. They will spare no effort in order to funnel money to corporate cronies, and let the rest of us drown in debt and slave wage jobs. They have absolutely no compassion, nor desire to see all Americans prosper. They have theirs, now they want yours, and mine, and everybody else's they can steal.

The Bush presidency has been the worst disaster to happen to our country. Their enablers are either religious lunatics, or vicious, mean spirited people who enjoy seeing other people suffering. It is absolutely essential that we regain at least one branch of Congress, and elect a Democrat in 2008. I truly believe our fate as a democracy depends on getting the neocons out of office, and behind bars.

5. I hate those who are...
...trying to turn my country into a feudal theocracy. I hate those who would put me in a concentration camp. They started the hating 80 years ago, and are still doing it. When they come for me, I will fight back, will you?

6. I think it is really odd "redefining"...
as the charges don't include "kill all the liberals" Ann Coulter,

or "nuke foggy bottom (the US State Department) Pat Robertson,

or any of the other high profile GOP talking heads that espouse hatred and death wishes for fellow americans on a regular basis.

Edited on Sun Aug-06-06 08:19 PM by bowens43
accuse us of being intolerant because we won't tolerate , bigotry , hatred and racism.
In other words, we're intolerant because we won't tolerate intolerance!

9. If the debate has to be framed in terms of hatred.
For some it has to be that way. Like in fairy tales where the evil (witch or whatever) dies and the heroes live happily ever after. There has to be a clear delineation. You cannot have "disagree" or "dislike" or "alternative", you must have "HATRED!".

It has to be easy to understand.

11. Kicked and recommended! Some excellent points!
The right wing thinks the left is "hateful" because they keep fighting back against them instead of just sitting back and taking the right's abuse of the country.

13. Well said
It is a standard fascist tactic to scream that everyone is is doing to them what they have just done to others.
For them an accusation is a confession.
Was it Al Sharpton that pointed out that they squeal like stuck pigs every time their evil doing is mentioned?

:applause:

It's a tactic that has worked well for them lo these past 20-30 years. No mo' mo' fo's. The Corporate Press can repeat their talking points to their hearts desire, but more and more are waking up to the reality of what's happening to our once great country. Let's just pray it's not too late...

it is hatred to say that the super-wealthiest .005% aren't inherently superior and more deserving human beings, simply due to their obscene wealth, though. Since clearly they are. :sarcasm:

The extremist fringe that has spent months running a campaign that consisted of nothing but character assassination, including a racist caricature, vainly claiming it is not what it so plainly is.

the Junior Joe club is always calling for purgers and smearing its critics dishonestly. As your post demonstrates. In spades.

probably something wrong. They are criminals and hatred is a useful emotion. Hopefully, it is channeled constructively.

32. There are fringe whackos on both sides of the spectrum
but methinks the bashing of the far-left is more of a typical RW talking point that perpetuates the fear and terror to motivate RWingers to vote, period.

And I wonder if it isn't a meme that is being used to try to drive a wedge within the party.

33. So let me get this straight
The far left screaming for a party purge of this or that Democrat (almost always a Democrat cruising toward re-election and walloping the GOP opponent) isn't driving a wedge in the party....but anyone who objects is.

Hokay.

"the bashing of the far-left is more of a typical RW talking point"
That's especially poignant the same week the Green Party turned out to be a Republican funded dirty trick.
