For months, the Democrats have been searching for a national strategy to use against the Republicans in the fall. One national issue that could easily demonstrate the clear difference between the two parties, and lead to a massive sweep in the elections. What they've gone to is a series of secondary issues, minimum wage, corruption, etc. that don't focus on the larger issues, and only play locally.
For many of us, myself included, our single focus is on the war. Everything else is secondary. You want the one issue that unites disillusioned Republicans and hardcore Democrats? It's the WAR! The one issue that unites every single rubber stamp Republican in Congress? It's the WAR! The one issue where most Democrats have demonstrated a willingness to explore new options while the Republicans have demonstrated only a resolve to "stay the course?" It's the WAR! This is the single-most important issue of our day, and we're afraid to make the elections about it.
How can we even talk about "A New Direction" if we're not willing to engage in debate on Iraq? The message could not be more obvious to me: "Stay the Course" vs. "A New Direction."
